Heather:

I am sorry for what you are going through. You have obviously been through a lot in your life and have many reasons to feel stressed. I suffered through a panic attack that lasted about 17 hours - Sunday night until early yesterday afternoon. I barely slept and felt shakey and nervous and horrible. I wound up having to take half a valium to calm down and today I feel better. We all have bad days, but remember you are not alone. The anxiety cannot hurt you. Try and distract yourself. Can you visit a friend? Watch a favorite movie? Read a book? Take a bath? These things all help me. Lean on whoever or whatever you need to - you will get through this.

Good luck

I am very sorry to hear this, Heather. What did the ER doctor advise? Have you talked with your own medical dr. or your therapist to get their opinions? Was being admitted an option? There's no shame in asking for help. Sometimes a change in environment & knowing there are others around to help us will reduce the panic. I have been admitted for that reason in the past. Much like you described yesterday, I had not slept for weeks. If you could get that needed rest, I am sure you would be able to cope better. Please keep in touch. We care. Good luck & GBU! (((hugs))) jan

the ER alone can intensify panic you are a real trooper! I'm sorry to hear that the dr. would not give you something to alleviate your panic. I have suffered from panic attacks for many years and for many years I have taken medication. I found out I was pregnant for the first time in 16 years and boy did that send me into a tizzy! I take ativan for anxiety. I struggled with my panic attacks and was told that, if absolutely necessary, I could take the smallest dose of ativan, in my case .25mg and that would at least take the edge off. I know that It is not the best thing in the world to do but a constant state of panic is not good for your baby either. I only took a dose once or twice, but the thought that could take it eased my mind and I felt better. Please try not let your panic overshadow your pregnancy, It is a wonderful experience and it is yours. Unfortunately, I miscarried at 7 weeks and I only then realized how much I would have sacrificed to have my baby. I have been told that genetic abnormalities are the likely cause for miscarriage and not the early use of medications. after your first trimester is over you should be able to take anti-depressants, I hear zoloft is pretty good. so you may have to rough it for a little while longer, hang in there the rewards are so worth it! I am trying for another pregnancy and have managed to stay off meds the majority of the time (I still find myself in need of that tiny dose from time to time)I drink 1 cup of 1/2 caff daily, I take b-complex daily and a prenatel vitamin, I drink tension tamer tea by celstial seasonings and I have resigned myself to do what I can do and I avoid "trigger" situations. i wish you all the best and I hope that you are able to find your way through this with peace of mind.
