Hey guys. I am pretty new here, but I am having some MAJOR issues with panic attacks. I keep calling in sick to my work because I keep having panic attacks. I had to leave work on Thursday due to a panic attack. My attacks are horrible. They just don't seem to get any better. I want to take a leave of absense from my work, but I am afraid that they will just fire me.

What do I do? I am at a loss. I am crying even as I type this. Someone please help

Hi, Shelly! Glad that you posted. I am sorry to hear about the panic. You are NOT alone. Hopefully you'll find the support here that you need to move forward.

Oh honey, I know where you're coming from. I mean, my situation isn't exactly the same as yours, but I can relate. I lost several jobs due to anxiety issues. For a while, I thought it was due to the fact that I was in the wrong field; however, I was lucky in that while I was working, I got advice from my doctor to seek the respective help..in this case, it's a psychologist.

I was just diagnosed with GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder), which is pretty much performance anxiety. I'm trying to work out this right now, so I can get back on my feet with a stable job. It's kind of pathetic isn't it? You know you're talented, and something like this just puts a screwdriver in your life, huh?

I'm trying to work right now into breathing techniques or the "Back to 1" technique where you count forward from 1 to 10 until the fear is gone. I was told by my doctor to practice this at least 3x/day (before breakfast, lunch, dinner) to get rid of the thought, but point here is, this is my prescription, it may not be for you, but I tell ya what, I wish I had gone to the psychologist sooner. It would have saved me some lost work years.

Go do it! See your doctor..I'm sure it'll make you feel better!

((((((HUGS))))))!
