Nursing School Question

Hi. I remember there being a poster over in this board who graduated or is graduating from Nursing School this year. I was hoping to ask her how she did it with three children in tow? Amazing! I'm 33 y.o., and my dh and I are expecting our first child end of this month. I have a majority of the pre-requisites for Nursing School, since I quit back in '94. I'm thinking about applying to the accelerated program (another school different from the one I graduated w/in another degree) here locally which would allow me to go through school in 13 months.
From what I understand, I would be in classes all day, and pretty much try to study everyday for three hours. Of course, I'm hoping to wait for at least a year or two before I try to get in.
Right now, I'm just considering Nursing School. After being diagnosed with GAD last week, I'm also reconsidering entering the Env Health field (what I graduated in), so I submitted an application, but I'm still looking into the option of an accelerated program in Nursing.
I was wondering if anyone especially maybe Glitterngold (sp?) could give any input or advice?
Thanks,
Yaddiya

Yiddiya,
Sorry it took me a while to get to your post, I graduated this week!
Yep, I have 3 kids and have been going to school the past 4 years. It has been rough but with a lot of hard work, sacrifice, and determination I finally made it!! I rearranged my whole life to make this work and gave it 100% My girls made sacrifices too, less activities, less time with mom, and more chores. They helped out a lot! I also studied more than 3 hours a day, I did all my assignments, handouts, workbooks, notecards, etc. I did graduate with high honors too! So it was all worth it!
The best advice I can give is if you want to be a nurse GO FOR IT!! Take some time for yourself along the way and for the family too. Your brain will thank you...lol. I was offered an excellerated program at one time but it was too much information too fast. No one could keep up with that and have a family at my school. The classes are hard so make sure you don't take on too much at once.

Thanks for the information Lisa! I actually had completed a majority of the pre-requisites at another school..at least I think I have. I know, for example, if I re-applied to that same school's dental hygienist program, a majority of the pre-requisites would be done.
Actually, my friend's sister was thinking about applying to that same accelerated program at another school; however, her mom came out of remission with her breast cancer, so it's delaying her a bit.
Again, thanks for the info, and CONGRATULATIONS!

Your welcome!
If you have your pre-req's out of the way it will be much easier to succeed. Just remember it can be done!! It might not be easy but it is worth it!
Hugs,
Lisa
Thanks for the encouragement!
