I'd like to get some honest input from those who know me & remember my driving progress.

Sheriann Forcing yourself to drive takes a GREAT
amount of effort!!! When you were sick there was no way you
could drive--- so then you gave up on it....
SOMETIMES we have to get back at it and JUST DO IT!!
It is hard and stressful I KNOW but waiting more time is not
going to help at all. YOU KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!! YOU DID IT BEFORE!
Sooooooo I suggest some pushes to get you out-------- maybe get yourself
a treat for going out???? I marvel at those who drive all over the place
and even take trips by themselves!!! They are so lucky and don't even know it!
GOD BLESS and give it a try!!! Judy

(((Sheri Ann)))

When you are down with the flu driving is the last thing on your mind! Rest and getting well are the top priority. I realize this got you off track a bit *but* you made progress before and you will again.

Remember you would take small drives to work yourself up to the bigger ones. You might have to take a bigger step back and just get behind the wheel, roll down the window, and just sit there. Maybe start it up, listen to one song, then try again the next day. Do not force it too much, baby steps!

I will be cheering you on!! And if my car ever gets fixed I will be on the road with you, ok maybe not the same road but one very similar...LOL.

Hugs,

Lisa

The more I read, the more I am convinced that hypnotherapy is the way to go. If I was faced with the fear again,

How does this work on something like our anticipatory fears?

Sheriann8 - I dont really know your situation but I too have had some problems driving. I got into an accident and couldnt get behind the wheel again but now that I live on my own and in the middle of nowhere, I have to drive! I work about 20 minutes away and no buses come by my house...so my only option is to drive! All I did was got in the car and did it because I had to..I didnt think about it...thats what helped me...not thinking. Also make sure that your car is in working order and that your car is clean. Put in a air freshener that you like and just take your time...as it was said before, take baby steps. It might take some time but you can do it!! There is nothing to fear but fear itself and its all about the positive self talk. I hope that this will help and I know that you will drive again. Believe in yourself and believe in your abilities. Its never as bad as it seems. You go girl! (((HUGS))) Gidget

I googled info, too, Sheri Ann. Whatever came up & looked interesting, I read. Most of the links had message boards so they can't be posted here. TBH, the medical community does NOT support hypnotherapy. Except for IBS. That's where I got the idea that it would work. Most of my fear with IBS is *what if* I can't find a BR quickly enough. So, it *might* work on the same principle.

Also, I see that many sites sell tapes that are intended for the listener to think positively & relax them through their specific fear/phobia. Since my chanting & meditation tapes work for me, why wouldn't the hypnotherapy? Please don't rush out & buy anything! Everyone should read as much as they can & ask their pdoc or *T* what they think. In your case, Sheri Ann, I am not sure why you would be told that you weren't a good candidate. Once again, your *T* is probably mainstream medical community. Also, if you were *cured* he wouldn't be making any money off you, now would he? I just find it all very suspect. Especially when Judy & Suz have been helped by the process. KWIM? JMHO. (((hugs))) jan
