I have just been perscribed Paxil and Im on a dosage of 20mg....what should i expect and is the dosage high? My doctor and i have decided that i should go on meds for my anxiety, my mom and friend on the other hand are worried! I just wanted to see if there is anyone out there taking the same meds and what will go on with my body. I have read that these meds are safe and that they arent a cause for concern but with anxiety..well...you have to question eveything and what better place to ask then here, with people who are experts(well, pretty close to it)

Thank you

Hi Gidget!! I have taken Paxil for panic and anxiety for over 15 years
I am MUCH BETTER since I have taken it. I was having panic attacks all day
and night at the time and after 3 weeks I realized that I felt so much better!
Now everyone reacts differently to meds But I am telling what happened with me.
When I started the Paxil my mind never rested I was constantly thinking with
racing thoughts that was the first symptom that I noticed was gone!!
I have to say that my life changed at that point for the BEST!!!
I hope you react to it as I did! Let us know-------- also I did not have
any side effects from it. I also took xanax .25 mg I wish you well!! Judy

Hi Gidget and I have personally never tried Paxil for anxiety but I have been on Effexor which caused me to gain 25 pounds and I am currently on Lexepro for the anxiety which has only caused me to 10 pounds and if weight is not an issue with you then I would say that if the Paxil doesn't work out then you might ask your doctor about these 2 and please do let me know how the Paxil turns out for you

Hi Gidget, I was prescribed Paxil cr a week ago. I'm still anxious alot, but doc gave me ativan for that. How are you doing on it now? I'm just wondering how long this nausea is going to last. Did you have depression as well?

Thank you everyone who replied to my post. I decided to put off taking paxil for about 3 weeks...I was scared to take it...I am now taking it although this is my first day on it, Im no worse for wear. I have found that Im a little spaced and tired, but nothing much yet. If I am correct these side effects should go away in the next few days or weeks? I sure hope so! Also I am only taking half a pill right now, my doc told me to, that would be only 10mg. I would also like to take this time to thank you all so very much for helping me through this, I find comfort in knowing that Im not alone. I have found some other people at work who, like me, have anxiety...they have helped me as well. So with that Im not going to change jobs quite yet, as my grandmother always said "Misery love company"...lol...boy was she right! You need someone to lean on when everything else feels like mush. All in all Im doing good, missing my mom ofcourse, (shes in away helping her friend)and hoping for the best for us all! Please feel free to email me @ piglet375@hotmail.com...I sure would welcome a friend. HUGS to all.

Just a update..I have decided not to take the meds anymore...I felt too out of body and had 3 panic attacks! I feel better now that Im med free! I honestly believe that my panic attacks are linked to PMS, one week before my friend shows up (LOL) I get all weird and lose my mind, or so I think...lol....I am thinking of going to the book store and buying Lucida Bassets books on anxiety. I hope that it works, crossing my fingers! Thank you again for your support and I will keep you updated.

We'll support you in whatever method you choose to deal with the anxiety, Gidget. The Lucinda Basset program is one used successfully by others on the board. Good luck & keep in touch! (((hugs))) jan
