Hi all, I am new to the board and any advice is welcome!!! I am curious if vitamins and excersize really help with anxiety? Also, I have suddely diagnosed myself allergic to shellfish and if I even think it was cooked in the same pan I freak. Has that type of thing happened to anyone? I could ask 1000 questions to, maybe, make me feel better about the whole thing, it is very depressing. Trying not to be a burden, trying to learn to cope!!! Sheri

To elaborate on the shellfish thing, I was taking trimspa for a week or so and one morning I ate Lobster meat for breakfast , a little while later my lips got tingly and I just felt funny. I went and read the bottle and it said do not take if you are allergic to shellfish. Once I saw that my tongue was getting puffy I freaked, which would have been my first PA. The next week I had another but kept thinking it as food allergy. Went to ER they diagnose me with vertigo. In the back of my mind I knew it was panic/anxiety but kept trying to play it off. I'm a mom you know, this can't happen, I need to chill. I still don't know if I am allergic to shellfish but every time I try to eat and it is there I get nervous. I actually tried to eat crab after taking the meds and it was instant PA. I should probably go have an allergy test to be sure! Sheri

Hi there,

I recently had an allergy test to rule out allergies to shellfish. It's a pretty simple test, all they have to do is draw some blood.

As far as vitamins, I have read a lot of articles that say they can be helpful. The main ones for anxiety are the B vitamins, although I also started taking Omega 3 oils in the form of flax seed and fish oils. I have also recently read some articles about the benfits of exercise. I don't have any bookedmarked, but you can find them by searching on Google. Here are some articles on vitamins that I have bookmarked:

Hope that helps!

It's great to know that a doctor recommended B vitamins and Omega 3 fish oils. That gives more credibility to it! How much did he suggest to take of each? I take 50 mg of B vitamins in the am, and currently only 800 mg of fish oil (not sure that is enough--I heard 3,000 mg spread throughout the day is needed). I'm trying to eat fish too, but I'm not fond of the taste. I'm trying to get used to it though, very healthy for you.

I had a prescirption for Animi-3, which cost about $80/month, so I switched to store brand vitamins.

Hello. I am beginning to try adding B12 to my diet. I take a Centrum multi vitamin each day and now I am taking a B12 (500mcg) too. I am also thinking that I will add in a B6. I read a lot about those 2 helping with depression and anxiety. I can only hope they will work. I am weaning off of Zoloft right now. I am also seeing a therapist. It took a couple tries to find someone I could click with and I finally did. That makes a huge difference. The other 2 people I tried were not helpful at all. One was majorly pro-drug and the other was just not helping me.

I have hang ups too. I fear eating certain things or going to certain places if I think they could have in any way contributed to an anxiety attack. I get mad at myself at times and force myself to be exposed to those things just to prove it was not the cause. That is tough and sometimes I cannot do it but it does help to prove to yourself sometimes.

I am also adding in calcium (1200mg). I seem to have major anxiety and depression around my period time of the month lately and read this can help. We'll see.

I have multivitamins in the cabinet just waiting for me. I am already taking two meds and I worry about a reaction between all three. I take my meds at three different times a day so maybe they wont overlap so much. I know it is an unreal worry but I just keep looking at them. I think the Lexapro is making me sleepy so I know a vitamin woulld help I just need to get over it and take them!!! Sheri
