AM Anxiety?

Hello, I am new here with a question.

I was really stressed out on Monday, I woke up Tuesday morning feeling numb through my legs and stomach. Wednesday I saw the doctor, she's going to book me for an MRI. I woke up this morning and the numbness was a bit worse.

At this point, she's thinking either MS or an anxiety disorder. So I need to try and relax - yeah right!

I'm just wondering if anyone experiences the same symptoms, and if they seem worse in the morning? Do they ever go away? What can I do? I'm active, my diet is good, my blood pressure is excellent. I've started listening to calming music and reading affirmations before bed. I've done some reading here in the archives as well.

TIA, obj

Hi. Welcome to our board. I have anxiety disorder and it is FAR WORSE in the mornings. I have often wondered if my hormones were out of whack even because of the way I cycle through the day. The morning is the worst then by evening I am usually okay. It is very annoying. Get your test results and rule out any medical issues first. That is what I did too. For me, it started with me getting very sick from high altitude hiking and dehydration. Once the physical symptoms were better, I started waking each day in a state of anxiety. I'd feel nauseous, nervous as can be, and very alarmed for no apparent reason. I'd have sweating spells too. It was awful. I'd have what I call waves come over me where I'd feel really bad and worse and worse and then my temp would feel like it was climbing and I'd break a sweat and feel better for a minute. Then it kept cycling. It was scary. I thought for sure something bad was wrong with me physically. The docs ran all sorts of tests and all came back clean (thankfully). It turned out to be anxiety disorder. The problem for me is that when I feel bad physically, my anxiety triggers. But to answer your question, yes, mornings are the worst.

Hey, I dont experience any numbness, unless I am having a panic attack. But I can definetly relate to anxiety being worst in the morning. (atleast for me it always is)Anyways, I really hope your MRI turns out to be just a little anxiety, please keep posting and let us know how you are doing!! Best of luck.....

Sometimes I feel like my anxiety is worse first thing in the morning. I think it could be due to low blood sugar, since I haven't eaten in about 12 hours. I try to eat something right away with complex carbohydrates, like whole grain cereal. I think it helps me.

Hey all, I totally agree. My anxiety is always worse in the AM. I haven't been on in a while, been feeling pretty good. But there are still some mornings when I wake with the anxiety and it sometimes only gets worse throughout the day. But Hallelujah I have more good days than bad ones....it's been a long 2 years. I just wanted to say that it does get better....and hopefully it continues. It's just such a relief to feel almost normal again. I am still taking 1/2 of a .25 XANAX once a day. Occasionally I take 2 halves in one day. But it's a huge step forward. Now if I just could get my finances under control OOPS that's another board LOL. Take care everyone, better days ahead for everybody I hope. JanW

I too have anxiety in the morning, as soon as I wake up! Its getting a bit better, but it is definately the hardest part of my day. I take 10mg. of ativan in the morning and it really does wonders for me. Strange, it seems like alot of us have this same experience.

I agree, maybe researchers should try looking into that. Why is it that most of us seem to have the hardest time in the morning? Hmmm, strange! I cant stand the mornings but my late afternoon and evenings are usually pretty good. Weird....
