klonopin & lexapro

I have been on Lexapro (15 mg) for about a year and 1/2 and due to the fact that I am starting to feel anxiety and panic attacks again the doctor now wants me to take klonopin at night time along with the Lexapro. I read on another site that the Klonopin is addictive and has very bad withdrawal symptoms when trying to get off of it and I was wondering if anyone has ever been on Klonopin before and has gotten off it without any major withdrawals?

Hi! I know you're scared, but try to keep things in perspective. Why would your dr. order something that was dangerous? I am positive your dr. knows best & is doing the right thing. Klonopin can be addictive especially if taken recreationally or by exceeding the prescribed dose. You are following doctor's orders & will be just fine. It's likely, that you will only be taking this until you get the a/p under control. I have been on & off klonopin for about 5 years. I only take it as prescribed by my pdoc. When my a/p is controlled, I wean myself off in just a few days by following my pdoc's instructions. I have never had any withdrawal symptoms. Good luck to you. HTH (((hugs))) jan

I really appreciate your input and you are right, why would the doctor give me something dangerous especially when he has wanted me to get better and be off of medication period, I will definately reconsider taking it.

It sure feels good hearing positive things as I was really scared about trying this but I feel differently now. I am so thankful that I found this website and that there are people out there that I can communicate that are going through or have gone through the same things I am or have. Again thanks for the kind words..

I was on lexapro (20mg) for a year and 1/2 when it stopped working. I started having anxiety again too and my doc. put me on paxil instead. I've been on it almost 4 weeks and I feel so much better. Maybe you need to switch meds or up your dose of lexapro.

1st of all Hi and thanks for the reply. I had tried upping my Lexapro to 20 mg but then I started feeling real jittery so he took me back down to 15 but I still feel a little anxiety at times. I thought about Paxil and mentioned it to him before but he knew my fear of gaining more weight as I gained about 30 pounds with Effexor which if I wasn't depressed before sure got me depressed as it took me years and a lot of will power to lose 100 pounds which I had previously lost prior to the Effexor. I have decided to give 20 mg of Lexapro another try because even though I got some good replies about Klonopin I still have my doubts about it. I do hope the Paxil works for you and my prayers will be with you.
