Hey all, I have an appoitment with my doc this morning and I have been doing a little bit of research on the internet, and I think I am going to talk to him about Zoloft. I like the fact that it is non addictive , the side effects are pretty mild, if you even experience any, and also, it is what my friend takes and she said she has never felt better, and I really would love to start feeling better. I was just wondering if anyone else was on Zoloft, and if so , what is your opinion about it?? All advice is more than welcome!!

Have a good day!!

I just started taking Zoloft on the 29th of June.

I have to say that for myself it has been a great thing, and I'm a little upset that before now I was so against any type of meds. I feel like I can finally relax, I've been laughing again, and some of my obsessive thoughts (about bad stuff that's happened when I lay down to sleep) has mostly disappeared. I can think about the stuff, but I don't get "stuck" anymore. I also got my vocabulary back as my anxiety was starting to create problems like not being able to "think straight" and losing words in the middle of a conversation (very scary...).

I have had some side effects of nausea and loose bowels, but I haven't felt the nausea today (YEAH!!!). My doctor, and others here at IVillage have said that is common, and should go away.

Even if the nausea and other problems DIDN'T go away, I would still want to take this as the positive effect for myself outweighs dealing with the side effects. I will say that my anxiety always affects my digestive system, so I think that probably makes me more prone to these specific side effects.

Good luck Kindra!

Hi Kindra,

Zoloft worked the best for me, and I have tried them ALL! I felt great so I went off it, and stayed off it for a while. Then the anxiety came back, and the second time I tried to go back on it, it didn't seem to work as well. However, now that the generic will be available, I may consider it again. It really was the best one I tried.

I tried Zoloft a few years ago and it wreaked havoc on my stomach. After a week when it didn't go away, I called my doctor and she took me off it. So I wasn't on it long enough to get any therapeutic benefit from the drug. But my experience with SSRIs in general have not been good. I would have to be really really sick to agree to take another SSRI (I've tried most of them). I hate them. Side effects for me were bad and totally not worth the potential benefit.

Hi everyone, so I went to doc appoitment this morning and I had to fill out an anxiety / stress evaluation sheet, and the lower your score, the better. I scored 63 out of 77. NOT GOOD. My doc prescribed me Zoloft before I could even request it. He also gave me Ativan? I dont no if thats how you spell it, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me what it would be for ( remember I already have xanax) ?? Anyways, I took my first Zoloft, and it makes me a little bit sleepy but not too bad and also I have cotton mouth a bit too. I heard that this is normal. How long does it take to feel the effect of Zoloft? Well, like I said before, any and all advice is welcome here...... :)

Good luck with the zoloft, Kindra. It's helped alot of folks on the board. Like all antidepressants, it takes about 4 to 6 weeks to achieve optimal effect. As for the ativan, it's in the same family as xanax. Did you tell the dr. you had xanax? That is very unusual to be prescribed both. IMHO, it could be dangerous. I would check with the dr. again. (((hugs))) jan

HI Kindra,
My doc also prescribed zoloft and ativan for me. I tried the zoloft for one day and I couldn't sleep that night so I stopped taking it. However, I did hear a lot of positive things about it so I am going to take it with some sleeping aid for the first week that it has that side effect. I think your doc might've prescribed zoloft because your chances of becoming dependent on it are a lot less than xanax. Also, the ativan acts quickly to releive anxiety and panic. I take it when I feel like i'm about to get a panic attack and it helps to relax me. Hope this was helpful :)
