Increasing the Meds ?

Well, I started the higher dose of paxil today (37.5) and it wasn't too bad. There was some increased anxiety, but I took an ativan and it helped. I actually felt really good this afternoon, better than I have in a long time, but have been a bit anxious this evening. I sure hope this is the right drug and strength for me. It seems like an eternity since I've gone a day without feeling at least some anxiety. Can anyone else tell me if their increase in a drug worked effectively and long term? Were there initial side effects again? I guess I'm like everyone else and just want to find the right medication for me and be able to take it long term.

I took paxil so long ago, Candace, that I can't remember much. I do know that a little bit of sleepiness was a side effect after med increases for me. I usually got myself *righted* in just a couple of days. Never anything serious. Some folks have reported an increase in anxiety for a couple of days that goes away. I never experienced that. Since you've already been taking the paxil, you'll probably see good effect in 3 to 4 weeks. Good luck!
As for daily anxiety, meds are only a tool. They will never take the anxiety away entirely. Do what you can to keep busy with hobbies, exercise, outings, etc. We are all learning to cope with the anxiety by working around it, through it, above it, below it, etc. It can be done. You will find a way to get your life back on track. (((hugs))) jan
hi candace, just wanted to offer my support....3 months ago i went from 25 mg of paxil CR (which i took for about 7/8 years) to 37.5 and now to 50 mg daily.
I used to be the same way. As long as I was on an anti-depressent, I had no anxiety or depression. My first attack was about a year after my daughter was born and she is now almost 10. I have a son who is 5. I stopped taking meds altogether when I was pregnant with my son, but didn't have anxiety until 3 years later. Thats when I went on Lexapro and it worked for a while, but stopped. I had a hysterectomy on June 2 and a MAJOR attack on June 7th. I'm still trying to recover. My husband and kids are very understanding. He takes up all the slack and my kids just think I'm not feeling well. I will say that getting back to work has helped alot. It keeps my mind busy.
Mornings still suck. I wake up anxious and sometimes vomit and tremble. Ativan helps that alot. I just hope the increase makes a big difference. I'm not used to living with anxiety every day, just like you. I too feel like a different person.
We are all in this together. It's very helpful to get on this board and vent or ask questions. Again, I pray that you get relief soon. I want you to be anxiety free when you have your baby!
