As most of you know, I've taken Paxil now for 6 weeks. I started to feel better around 3 weeks, but bad again around 5 weeks. My doctor gave an increase last Thursday (6 days ago). My question is, how long before the increase starts to take effect? I'm having side effects again like the initial side effects and I'm wondering should I give it a few more weeks or do I need to switch meds? I'm just looking to hear from others who have had to increase meds. I'm sick of feeling anxiety every single day. Of course, the Ativan helps alot, but its still there. I posted this on the antidepressant board as well. I'm looking for lots of posts.

Candace,
again

hi candace, my doc told me it takes 1-2 weeks to feel the effects of an increase in paxil, so i would imagine the side effects your effects should be over by then too...i'm sorry your feeling so bad...i'm going throught the exact same thing with paxil...i've been on 25 mg for 8 years...relapse...upped my dosage to 50 mg....and it was almost 8 weeks of the upped dosage before i felt better...and that makes me wonder, was it the increase in meds or just time and therapy and relaxaiton stuff that i'm doing that made me feel better.

When the anxiety is high like this, Candace, it's probably better NOT to focus on the meds. Just let them do their job. If the dr. thought paxil wasn't right for you, chances are he wouldn't have increased it. Since you have already been on paxil, you should see optimal effect in 3 to 4 weeks. It is very unusual to have a return of side effects on an increase. That has been my experience & I have taken AD's since my early 20's. (30 years) Try to find activities that will divert your attention from the anxiety. If you have concerns, contact your dr. or pharmacist. Good luck! (((hugs))) jan

I don't have another doctor's appointment yet. I'm just going to give it a few more weeks and see what happens. The mornings are the absolute worst. I wake up with bad anxiety, shakiness and vomitting. I think that is a side effect of the increase though. I've had that happen with every AD I've taken, it just never lasted this long. The daytime and evening is getting alot better and I'm rarely feeling depressed now. Its just so hard to wake up this way everyday for the past 7 weeks. I'm too skinny now and trying to put on some weight. I don't have an appetite. I do relaxation and belly breathing and work all day.

So, Heahter, you are still feeling bad after 8 weeks? I think you should talk to your doctor again. I also hope you don't have to go off it, you probably can't take anything like ativan while pregnant can you?

Sheri Ann, I did what you suggested. I took ativan before I had to get up and went back to sleep for about 45 mins. When I woke up, I was still trembling, nauseated and had a loose bm. It was a little better, but maybe I'm just destined to have horrible mornings forever. Thats how I feel anyway. I'm really upset to still be in such bad shape. I'm beginning to feel hopeless. All I want to do anymore is sleep. I wish I could fast forward the next several months and see how I'm doing. I don't want to give up on the Paxil just yet, so I will hang in there and see what happens. Thanks for listening and for your support.

Here are some good threads about morning anxiety, Candace. It will get better. Honest! My worst times were @ night & I felt like you that they would never end. Take a read through these & try some of the tricks others found worked for them. Good luck! (((hugs))) jan

Thank you so much for the links, Jan. I do suspect that is it still just my body getting used to the paxil and then the increase from last week. Hopefully I can wake up soon and feel fine. I've never been this bad off before and it sucks!
