I always carry two extra paxil in my purse for that very reason! I suggest you get a small pill case and carry a few Effexor with you at all times. BTW how long have you been on Effexor and what was it like to start? My doc. may be switching me to it in a few weeks.

Hi! Depending on how long you have been taking the effexor, this might be anxiety & not the missed dose. If you have been on the meds for more than 2 weeks, your drug level shouldn't drop so much that you would have a return of symptoms. If you're taking the effexor xr, it's even more unlikely that this is the reason behind your feelings. It works over an extended period, as it's released into the blood stream slower. Most ppl stopping their antidepressants do not see a difference for 3 to 5 days. I used to work @ a state hospital & to reduce the number of staff working & give us more weekends off, only heart meds, blood pressure meds, insulin & antibiotics were given on the weekend. All other meds were held until Monday without any effect on the patients @ all.

I'd say it's more like having alot on your plate. Can you reduce some of your stress? Can you deep breathe, meditate, exercise, etc. to help you relax? Try to focus away from the anxious feelings & keep busy. You will be fine until you get home & take your effexor. We'll still be here. Try to stop into chat tonight & talk about your feelings. We care & want you to feel better. Good luck! (((hugs))) jan

Thats a suggestion that a friend of mine gave me as well. I have been on Effexor about 4 months. Things affect me quickly wheather good or bad. I didnt have too many side effect. HAd headaches the first week. That was taken care of with motrin. then i had constipation. That was taken care of w/peppermint tea. I started of at 37.5 and increased to 150 mg. Personally its the only thing that worked for me. I had been trying for about 2 years to find something.

Wow, what did you try during those 2 years? I'm curious because I started taking paxil about 6 weeks ago and increased a week ago. I'm still having terrible anxiety in the mornings. I have to take ativan every day!

Could you share with us (probably did when you first joined in!) what your diagnosis is?

This was a very progressive hospital. The patients had their own council & were allowed to lobby for change. They were allowed to have a couple of alcoholic drinks on the weekends when they were'nt on their meds. Putting it in perspective, these ppl didn't have anxiety disorders, so they didn't get anxious without the weekend meds. It was researched over & over & the blood levels of their meds did not drop over those 2 days. jan

I am bipolar II, i have GAD and Depression. I found along w/my doctor that i needed a norepinephridine(sp) and serotonin reuptake inhibitor to treat the GAD and panic attacks. it also works on depression. Sorta a dual action thing ya know. The i have my bipolar cocktail as well.
