I stopped taking Lexapro last month because of severe hives, the doctor put me on Celexa instead, so far I am seeing no change in my anxiety levels, which is the same thing that happened with Lexapro (no results after more than a month). How long does the Celexa take to kick in? What kind of changes should I be looking for?

One of the hardest parts of starting on meds is the waiting. We always want to be better yesterday. OTOH, it sometimes takes changes in the meds, dosages etc. to get us where we feel better. Generally, antidepressants take 4 to 6 weeks to reach optimal effect. If you aren't feeling better, then you should check with the dr.

Some of the changes that I noticed when the meds finally kicked in were a decrease in worry, anxiety, depressing & recurring sad & scary thoughts. I slept better & was able to do more. I wasn't perfect. Meds are only a tool. They won't take the anxiety totally away. We all have to learn new ways to cope. Good luck! (((hugs))) jan

I'm happy you aren't getting the hives from the Celexa, since they are very similar drugs!

Did you have anxiety or depression? What kind of changes did you notice?

Thanks

I had anxiety, panic disorder, and depression all tangled into one huge scary and confusing mess.

I may have said this before, Jennifer, but meds are only a tool. I know they're helping you. But... YOU are helping YOU! Your attitude towards your anxiety is so different than when you first posted. You are able to cope so much better. Please give yourself credit for that. What an inspiration you are to others. Thx for replying so positively to that post. Keep up the great work! Whoo Hoo! You go, girl:) (((hugs))) jan
