Neurotransmitter Therapy ?

Hi, I've suffered anxiety for the last 10 years. I've just quit taking Paxil 6 mos ago after being on it for 7 yrs. I was forced to have to quit because of severe liver problems. I visited a naturopath, who is wanting me to start on Neurotransmitters, which are amino acids. I am very hesitant about taking anything after the withdrawals from Paxil, and because of my liver issues. Has anyone here taken these Neurotransmitters? If so, please give me some advice and input. Did they work, are you still taking them, and if not, then why, and were there withdrawals? Please, I would really really appreciate any info.
Thank you!
Jackie

i'm sorry to hear about your liver problems:( i've been taking paxil for 10 years and thankful haven't had any problems...may i ask how did you know you began to have liver problems? also...i don't have any wonderful advice to offer you on the neurotransmitter's but was curious...which neurotransmitters are they going to put you on?
I found out about my liver problems thru a routine blood test, I also take Synthroid for thyroid problems, so once a yr my Dr does full blood work. The normal was supposed to be a 45-50 or so, and mine was over 3100.00. They did tests to be sure it wasn't my gallbladder or a blocked duct, which it wasn't. They tested me for alot of other things, did ultrasounds..didn't find anything other than my liver being collapsed in a couple places. So the Dr said he had to wean me off the Paxil. Well, of course I rebelled, thinking there is no way, I've tried to get off before and it was AWFUL. In Jan, they put me on prednisone and after about 3 wks of that, I thought I was going to die, really gonna die. So at that point I quit cold turkey the Paxil, drinking (wine), went down to only 1 cup coffee a day, quit taking any Advils. Going cold turkey off Paxil is not the recommended way to go, but with the Prednisone influence, it helped some of the AWFUL side effects of withdrawal. I still am dealing with symptoms after 6 mos, and have to take it day to day. I've read that it takes almost a year to completely get over the withdrawals, and I believe it, it seems my withdrawals come and go systematically, 1 week this, the next week that. The anxiety is really bad, so since I can't take any medications because of my liver, I checked out alternative options since the majority of them are vitamins and such, thinking those can't be too bad. Hence, the neurotransmittal question. Hopefully, someone will post that has experienced it.
Thanks for posting!

Thank you for the warm welcome Jan. I will definitely check out the tips. My daughter suffers from anxiety right along with me, so hopefully one of them will work for us. I actually posted my same question to the alternative board also, so hopefully someone will post that has experienced this therapy.
Thanks again
Jackie
