Hi everyone, I am supposed to hear if I get the (1st)job "by the end of this week" and I have an interview for a different job next Tuesday.
I have never been in this kind of position before, in the past if I interviewed they gave me the job on the spot *but* this is a different kind of job so they have to consider options and stuff. I think I want the 1st job more than the one I have the interview for next week. 1st job is medical 2nd job is mental health, (people who are hospitalized for mental health issues)
So what do I do if they call and offer me the 1st job?? Take it and cancel the interview?? And when can I start?? I have 3 girls to get ready for school and orientations to attend at 3 different schools. I need the job and the money real quick but don't want my girls to suffer...or can I take the job but say I have a previous engagement on those days??
I am new to all this, stay at home mom for a long time converting to working mom! So any helpful tips or comments are appreciated.
Thanks a bunch,
Lisa

If you feel like the first job is a better fit for you and they offer it to you it is perfectly acceptable to take it and cancel the other interview. It is also fine to let them know that you have previous engagements for the days you have to do the orientations and stuff. Most employers are more than willing to accomidate those kinds of things. Think of it this way, if you had gotten the job 3 months ago, you'd still need those days off.
I hope you get the job you want! Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
hey lisa, if you want the 1st job and get it then i would cancel the 2nd job interview...also, you can let them know you have previous engagements on the days of your dd's orientations, ask them when they need someone to start, if its before/durning those days tell them of the engagement and tell them you are flexable and willing to work if its absolutley necessary...
just my opinion:) sounds like your doing really well...glad to hear this! let us know how it goes
If it's the first job you want, and you get it, take it!

You have gotten some good advice, Lisa. I haven't interviewed for along time, so I'm not sure what they do nowadays. I think I would have asked how soon you would be required to start, if you got the posistion. There's always a good chance that you can make arrangements to get those orientations out of the way. The schools will work with you. OTOH, I don't think it's a good idea to tell the hospital you have previous engagements. They are looking for someone who will be loyal & dependable
