Hi Everyone,
This is the fourth week I am on zoloft (50mgs) and I still don't feel better. My next appointment with my doc is not until the end of this month. Has anyone been successfully treated with zoloft? I don't even understand what I am feeling. I sometimes feel detached from myself and my surroundings don't seem real. I feel like I am losing my mind. This is all very frightening and at the same time very weird. These feelings trigger my panic attacks. I also have agoraphobia, which holds me back from doing certain things. I feel very uncomfortable in open spaces...I feel very light-headed. Can anyone relate to these feelings? Sorry, but I needed to talk to someone about this. I appreciate any advice. Thanks! (BTW, my doc had also prescribed ativan as needed. I completely stopped taking it 2 weeks ago).

Hi, Ally. I am sorry to hear that you aren't feeling better. It is always possible that zoloft is not working for you. Everyone is so different & the meds effect us individually. Please call your dr. You shouldn't have to suffer this way. Have you talked to a counselor? Learning new ways to cope with these feelings is possible.

Here are 2 threads that discuss the feelings of unreality. This is definitely part of anxiety. Not a very pleasant part): You are NOT alone. Good luck! (((hugs))) jan

Ally,

Zoloft was the only med that really worked for me. I took it for about a year several years ago, but I was on 100 mg, twice what you are taking. I just recently started it again only 2 weeks ago, so I am waiting for it to start working again.

Hey Ally,

Zoloft worked for my depression many years ago.

I myself too Zoloft for about a year.I stopped taking it for many reasons but one being that it made me feel very numb.....like I had no feelings.I felt the same ways you describe though, like I was always living in a dream like state and pretty much like I was loosing my mind.......I was also taking colozapam, which was the ONLY thing that seemed to help my anxiety attacks and other issues.....

These types of medications can take any where from 4,6,8 weeks for someone to start feeling the effects.

l have been dealing with the same issues you have for a very long time. l was on zoloft a few years back, and it worked really well for me. The amount your on now might not be enough, so your doctor will proably up your dosage next time you go back. It usually takes a few weeks for it to work. The reason l went off zooloft was because of the side effects, one being weight gain. l then went on one of the newer anti-depressants which had fewer side effects which l think was serzone--another good one. l went off meds about 3 months ago, thinking l would be ok. l am starting to have all the problems l had before, panic attacks, depression, having problems leaving the house, dreading my day to day activities. l still have some xanax l take a .5 in the morning and it really helps me to function. We just moved recently so l have to find a doctor in this area, not always easy to find the right one. Just know that you arent alone. After l realized how many people suffer with this problem it made it a little easier to deal with. l am here any time you need to chat, and believe me l have been through all the things you are dealing with now. Take care

It sounds like while you're waiting for the zoloft to kick in, you might really need an quick acting anti-anxiety type of thing - like the xanax, or the ativan or something like that. It really could help while you wait the 4-6 weeks for the zoloft to work.

I just want to thank all of you for all your advice and support. I feel a lot better after reading your posts. It makes me feel better just knowing that there is so much support. I am going to call my doc today and let him know about the zoloft. In the meantime, I am seeing a therapist who is helping me. He wants to have a few sessions with my boyfriend and I so that my bf can understand what I am dealing with. Also, my bf and I argue a lot which stresses me out, which makes it more difficult for me to get over this. Therefore, my therapist wants to reduce the stress in my life before we can even begin to work on the panic attacks. I will keep you posted on how it goes. THanks again!
