The Friday five got me thinking. Does anyone else get anxiety in theaters? Any ideas why this is an issue for people with anxiety? I've tried to figure it out, and all I could come up with for me is that it's too loud and too big. Plays are almost worse though. Again, not sure why. I can be in a play, but I have a hard time sitting through one if I'm in the audience. Go figure.

For me, it's the claustophobic feeling.

My first panic attack was in the auditorium during the senior class play. I had bronchitis & developed a coughing spell. People were looking @ me & though I knew I should leave my seat, I was paralyzed with fear. Being *contained* in any situation, such as standing in line or driving through tunnels, bridges, the Interstate or bumper to bumper traffic all trigger anxiety/panic. I want to get out, but can't. Last night I was @ the pharmacy drive thru window. It was bumper to bumper & I waited 20 minutes to get my turn. I was able to breathe & think positively & played with the radio stations. It was uncomfortable, but I made it! This is something that is an everyday occurence in modern life. I want to scream @ myself, *just get over it!* So far it hasn't worked, Jess. (((hugs))) jan
