Does Psychotheraphy work for anxiety?

I've been seeking help for anxiety and panic attacks. I'm on xanax and started prozac about a week ago. My doctor recommended therapy so I've to a therapist twice now.

I'm not sure theraphy is doing anything for me. My therapist does not seem to believe me when I say my anxiety is due to high stress at work, I'm selling my house and building a new house. He's looking for something else? He was asking me if my marriage was alright and if my health is otherwise OK. He kept suggesting that I might want to leave my husband because we've been married 19 years. I kept saying no I'm stressed at home because of the house stuff and very stressed at work over shortened timelines. I don't know if this therapy is doing any good. I only come out of it more stressed and angry at the therapist.

Has anyone had excellent results with therapy? Can you use therapy alone? I would like to not take drugs but my system feels too wired right now without them.

Thanks,
Janet

Well, Janet, IMHO I would say, "Get a new therapist".

Janet-

I completely believe that therapy is wonderful, if you have the right therapist as Jennifer said. I used to have a wonderful pyschotherapist a few years ago and found that that helped immensely.
