I notice that I am grinding my teeth at night, not when I'm sleeping, when I'm awake and/or clamping my teeth tight.

I do the same thing. I told my doc about it, he asked me what is going on at that time to make me stressed or upset. Well, that is the time I start getting my girls ready for bed. My youngest(who will be four on sept.3rd) hates going to bed. It is always a huge fight and lots of tears and snot flowing. It drives me crazy. My oldest(who is 9) goes to bed with no problem. SHe has always been that way. As you know my dh is a chef and is not home most of the time. So I have to deal with the sreaming and crying. I can understand what you said about chef's having a high divorce rate. We have come close a couple of times. Anyways, maybe there is something you are stressed out about at that time. When you start grinding your teeth, stop and see what is going on at that time. See if there is a pattern. Maybe that will help. Or maybe I am totally wrong. Shannon

YES! I have this! It just started a few days ago. I'm clamping down from tension I think. I wonder if I do it in my sleep too?

Good luck

my dh grinds his teeth in his sleep-- it was diagnosed by his dentist. I don't know what causes it, but it is terrible for your teeth, and the dentist says it can cause his migraines as well.
He is being fitted for a nightguard to wear at night (like a silicone thing that football players wear) and it is covered 100% by our dental insurance.

Why don't you check with a dentist?

I'm a teeth grinder/clencher too. I always assumed it was due to the tension caused by the anxiety, because I didn't start doing it until my first bad bout with anxiety. I do it when I'm awake as well. I have found that when I chew gum during the day it's worse at night. Sometimes stretching my jaw out by opening my mouth wide and moving my jaw from side to side helps.

It can't hurt to ask your doc about it during your next visit.

I'm thinking it's when I'm exhausted, at the end of the day.

i didnt have the teeth grinding/jaw issues until the second year of suffering panic attacks. I dont think its grinding for me. Its more jaw clenching at night to the point that i get headaches and my ears ring horribly.

Hey Sheri, I have this too, not sure why. I think as someone else said, it's tension, and I have enough of that. Sheri, how are things going in your life.....and with your anxiety. Things have been pretty good for me as far as anxiety, but the last few days, it's reared it's ugly head again. Then I start worrying about everything....it's awful. I think maybe the changing of seasons coming up and I know winter is on the horizon and that's very depressing for me. I just hope one day to beat this problem....thank goodness for Xanax. I think it's becoming a crutch for me and I worry about that also. OH BROTHER!!!! Well, hope you are doing well, and thank goodness for this board to come to for support. JanW
