new on meds with question

I have been on zoloft for 5 days now for anxiety with depression. I feel like the zoloft is making me feel slightly more anxious. Does anyone have experience with this? I know I'm not supposed to feel better right away, but I really would like to. : ) Is this because I'm new to the drug and it hasn't kicked in yet? My biggest fear is that I will "try" this for 2 weeks or a month or whatever and I'm still anxious and have to start all over with another drug. Can I get some reassurance please? I've read that it takes x amount of days to work, but what does that mean for the adjustment period?

Thanks,
Rachel

I am not on that med but I will tell you that i had to take xanax to adjust to my med. It helped me to not freak out over all of the side effects

Others have reported an increase in anxiety with new meds. This is usually temporary. In my case, it takes 7 to 10 days to get adjusted to new meds. Then, it's 4 to 6 weeks to have the optimal effect from an antidepressant. Zoloft is a good med

My sister took Zoloft for over a year. She had the same problem as you are describing and it lasted a week or two but then went away and she felt much better! She said the Zoloft worked very well for her. Like everyone else said, you might need some Xanax (or something like that) for a week or two. I don't know why the meds that help with the A&P actually make it worse for the first week or two. Ironic isn't it?! And NO Fun! Hang in there!

HUGS!!!

Thanks for all you replies (and encouragement!). I think I AM feeling a tad bit better. I'm really not sleeping well right now...I've gotten about 4 hours of straight sleep per night for the past 3 or 4 nights so I am EXHAUSTED. But, last night I took a benadryl with my zoloft before bed and I think I might have gotten 8 hours!!! I feel much better today. I'm going back to my nurse practitioner tomorrow to let her know how I'm feeling and see if I need to increase the dosage. I'm on day 8 at 25 mgs. So is the not sleeping thing probably also going to go away after a couple weeks? I go to sleep right away, but wake up after a few hours and then sleep very lightly the rest of the night through.

Tell the nurse practitioner about not sleeping well, Rachel. This should pass, too, but you might need some help now. Good luck! (((hugs))) jan
