Well, I had a drs. appointment today she gave me a prescription for paxil cr? at a very low dose, I think its 12.5 mg but I might even take half that amount at least for the first couple weeks, I am worried about the side effects because I have had some bad ones with other medications(for migraines) but at this point if it helps me not be so stressed out or worry about everything under the sun I am willing to give it a shot! I just really wish there were a way to fix the anxiety without taking anything! But I have being trying that since january with no relief, so here we go:) I am still going to consider finding a therapist as well, gotta start somewhere.. any adivce on taking only half what was prescibed, I am just afraid of feeling like a zombie or having too much weight gain, that was what happened with the migraine meds, along with the hair loss, all went back to normal after I stopped taking those meds.

Hi there - I completely understand how you are feeling .. I was that way before I started taking meds (I still am a bit because it was just recently that I started meds for the 2nd time!) ... try not to dwell on the side effects too much, I find myself doing that .. like "oh the bottle says I should feel this and now I am" ... lol .. so don't read them on the bottle! ;) If you don't think about it too much, it will help to ease them, if you have any at all , and if you do, hopefully they won't last much longer than a few days as mine did. Good luck *hugz*

hi there,

please don't take half of a paxil cr...with paxil cr you cannot cut/chew or break the pills w/out messing with the effects of the drug...if you want to start on a lower dose that is fine, but i would recommend telling this to your doc and he can give you a script for paxil (not paxil cr) the cr stands for controled release, so the med slowly disolves in your body, if you cut it in half you mess with this process...i won't hurt you, it just won't work as effectly as it can...

i take paxil cr (37.5 mg) and am also a therapsit and work with doc's and understand a lot of the anti depressants (especially paxil since i am taking it):)

12.5 is a very low dose, and you shouldn't feel many if any at all side effects from such a low dosage, however, there are also 5mg and 10mg dosages of paxil if you want to start on a lower dose.

Thank you so much for the info, I will try and take the prescribed dose, I don't want to do anything that might make it less effective, I am just worried about the side effects, but I guess I need to just give it a shot! I really appreciate your input!

Jan,

thanks for your input as well, I did take the paxil as prescribed last night and I will continue to do so, and I will just try not to dwell on the possible side effects. I also had an appt. today with a new neurologist, it went great! I really like her, she was very patient and listened when I told her that since I was just starting the paxil I was not wanting to take something for my migraines and tension headaches everyday, so with that said, she wants me to do physical therapy for my headaches and see how that goes, I will go back for a follow up in 6 weeks! she did prescibe something to help as needed for the headaches, I am just excited that she wasn't pushing for another daily med and really seemed to listen! it was very encouraging! thanks again!

I know how frightening it can be to start meds.
