Looks like Valerian helps my insomnia!!

I have insomnia that comes and goes, and over the past few months it's gotten progressively worse. I have a prescription for Ambien (no, I don't sleepwalk when I'm on it!), which I take occasionally, but I don't like to take it very often.

At my session last week, my *T* suggested Valerian root tea, which I had never heard of. Tea is okay, but I prefer pills so I found some Valerian capsules and took the suggested amount last night before bed. And it worked! I managed to fall asleep just after 1:30 a.m. which is much better than the usual 3 or 4 a.m. It was definitely relaxing--I noticed that I had to read this one paragraph in my book about 7 times for it to make sense, LOL.

I'm so glad this worked. Does anyone else take Valerian? Is it safe to take nightly? I've been doing some research on it and haven't come across anything that suggests it is harmful for long-term use.

Hey Laura - I bought some "Extra Sleepytime Tea" which has valerian in it .. but I've yet to take it myself. A friend told me about it and said it worked great. My only concern is the meds that I am on at the moment mention something about not taking organic treatment or something, so I'm worried about drinking the tea on top of it!

You are so right to be concerned, Briane. Herbs should be treated just as any drug. Tell your dr. that you'd like to try the tea
