...do you ever bring anyone to your sessions with you? A family member, SO, friend, etc.? Has your therapist requested that you did, or did you request or say you wanted to? Just curious! Thanks!

My mom went to a therapy session with me when I first started having issues with anxiety. It wasn't planned, though. I wasn't able to drive at the time, so she drove me, and then ended up getting involved in the session, which I was then charged twice as much for. lol Yeah, I never took anyone with me again.
My current therapist allows me to bring someone with me, if I want to. Has never asked me to, and I've not felt the need as of yet.
My tdoc has said that I could bring anyone that I want who would benefit from going to my tdoc and having her further explain my disorder.
I have not done so.
Years ago, I had a pdoc that wanted my family to attend what he called a planning session. These proved unproductive as my dad wouldn't attend & my mother doesn't think anxiety exists): My ex-husband did attend to learn more about my disorder but didn't like my dr. Hmm... He also had trouble believing that I couldn't *get over it* if I would only try.
Now, I see my dd's *T* for help in dealing with her issues, as well as my own. The insurance company covers so many *joint sessions* each year. After one of these, my dd refused to do it again. She said we were ganging up on her. The problem, Brianne, is her inability to respect authority figures. She didn't want to hear what the *T* had to say. She doesn't even go to her individual sessions anymore.
I hope other's have more positive experiences to report. (((hugs))) jan
I have had therapist suggest it to me, but I wasn't comfortable with it, because I knew dh wouldn't want to go in there.

Thank you all for your responses!! I was just curious .. my first therapist that I went to didn't ask, but I asked if I could bring Tim and my Mom (different sessions) and she allowed it, didn't charge extra either ... and the therapist I'm seeing now, I want to bring Tim and my Mom to as well (different sessions) ... Tim get's a better understanding when he attends with me and My Mom has so much info about my childhood that I think helps the therapist understand me more as well.
Anyway, thanks again :) I appreciate the responses, it helps!
