A few questions about meds & SAD
| Wed, 09-27-2006 - 9:35pm |
Hi everyone! I saw my psychiatrist Monday and he changed my meds from Lexapro to Celexa and cut the dosage in half (40mg. to 20mg). I have felt really light headed today and I am not sure if this is a side effect or something else. Has anyone experienced this?
Also, he suggested light therapy for Seasonal Affective Disorder and I am wondering if anyone has tried it and how it worked.
Thanks for all your help. Hope to talk to you Thursday.
Jamie

We did have a member some time ago who was helped with the lights. Here's 2 articles that may be helpful. http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-bhpanic/?msg=18825.1

On top of all the mood disordeers I have I have SAD also. I can't afford the light box but my psychiatrist said early morning sunlight works too. So I sit in the sun for about an hour in the mornings in the fall/winter months. It with a change of meds did help. SAD hasn't taken hold this year so far. I am in an apartment this year and will have to go out to the parking lot for sun. Hopefully we will have our house back soon. The house has a glass back door and I sit in the sun there and drink coffee and read books. The people I have talked to that used the light boxes really liked them and did get benefit from them.
Hope the celexa works for you. I had a real hard time grasping reality on that med. My cousin takes it and swears by it. It is different for each person. Give it some time to get into your system. But if the dizziness persists see your doctor.
Sincerely,
Julie

hi jamie,
i would imagine the light headness is a side effect...althought i am not a doc.
It could be a possible side effect.
Sometimes it takes time for a new med or any med for that matter to kick in.
Just keep track and if you are concerned I would make your doctor aware.
It just may not be the right one for you.

I've heard great things about the Celexa.
