Hello Everyone! My name is Jena. I am Bipolar and have hypothyroidism. I have been experiencing a lot of anxiety lately. I have been worrying about all kinds of crazy stuff for several weeks now (which is nothing new). I worry that when I take my dog for a walk other dogs are going to attack us. I'm worried someone will break into the house and hurt me and my family. I worry that I forgot to unplug my straightening iron and that it will set the house on fire. And the list goes on and on. My pdoc has put me on something called Klonopin for anxiety. I started taking it on Tuesday and haven't really noticed anything so far. Have any of you all been on Klonopin? What kind of relief did you notice? What should I experience when taking the medication? How long did it take for you to notice a change when taking it? Thanks, Jena

Hello, Jena! Nice to see you;) You are NOT alone. Most of us in this community were born worriers. It reachs a point sometimes that it interferes with our lives. Sounds like this is what's going on with you. There are many ways to de-stress & learn to calm yourself. Please take a look @ our *coping tips & tricks* folder below.
My thoughts are much like yours. Some are real. Some are imagined. I used to beat myself up over the zanier ones, but learned to like myself & accept that this is a chemical imbalance I have no control over. Klonopin is a longer acting anti-anxiety agent. I used to take it twice a day, but now only take it for severe anxiety or panic attacks. @ first, most people experience a little sleepiness. That rarely lasts after a week of use. For me the effect of slowing my thoughts & relaxing me comes in about 45 minutes. In my experience, it's not like some other meds that you *feel* working. It's less dramatic. I happen to notice that I am not as bothered by my fears & worries. Have your worries lessened? Have your racing thoughts decreased? Are you less fearful of being attacked or having your house broken into? That's what klonopin should do for you. No med will take our worries away completely.
We're happy that you found us & hope that you will feel @ home on our board. We want to support you in your quest for wellness. It is possible. There's a chat on Tues. & Thurs. evenings. You are very welcome there. Post anytime with questions or concerns. Good luck & GBU! (((hugs))) jan
