I posted in the health folder some info on St. John's Wort & SAMe. Last week, I posted about the benefits of massage in coping tips & tricks. Have you tried alternatives, ie.

Hi Jan,

I have not tried any natural remedias such as St. John's Wort. I asked my pdoc about it and he said that even though it is "natural" it can still react with other medication and cause severe harm, even death. He said that things like that are not regulated by the FDA. It just scared me way to much.

I do exercise on a regular basis as well as eat well and take vitamins. I definately can feel more anxiety when I don't exercise (especially during my period time). It really does make a difference.

I have had GAD all my life. I have been in counseling for years 10+ (I quit going one time for about a year), I have tried drugs (didn't work for me), and now I am going to try acupuncture. It is something that I have not done but it is worth a shot. Thousands of years of chinese medicine can't be wrong -- we will find out! I have thought about trying this for over a year and I have researched it well.

I have yet to try an herbal remidy.

Wish you lived here, Sheri Ann. Jas' English teacher holds yoga classes & is helped by a TM expert who is a Reiki master. It's held 2 blocks from me. I really enjoyed it when I went before my surgery. Haven't even considered signing up this fall. jan

Hi ,

I am at my 6th acupuncture treatment and it is doing something. I've stopped having cold sweats every night the week before my period and there is something she does to me by taping with her finger at certain parts of my face and fingers and repeating a phrase that is really meaningful to me that helps me detach myself from bad things. I know it's hard to understand, my description is not really clear, I think she calls' it the FT Treatment...anyways it helps me to get things in perspective and detach myself from my parents who consummed me for a long time and for whom I always worried. Now with this treatment I'm trying to accept my symptoms of anxiety/panic...it's hard but I'll see if it works. There is no side effects in trying acupuncture, at the most it will relax you.

Take care

Hi I had cognitive therapy when I was first diagnosed with
Panic Disorder- at the time I had a HUGE number of PHOBIAS and with
the help of my therapist and medication and DETERMINATION I succeeded in
breaking down these PHOBIAS!! At the time I was able to drive to work
and teach without much problem---- I could not go anywhere else ALONE
could not drive highways, bridges or mountains!! I was scared to walk
anywhere alone I HATED BEING ALONE!! I was scared of storms, had social
anxiety and life was filled with FEAR! Cognitive therapy and my therapist
and the meds helped me overcome my fears and Phobias and the Panic stopped.
My life changed drastically after a few years and I was faced with caring
for my father who had alzheimer disease and had abused me as a child, and
taking care of my retarded sister who lived with him! I was working full
time and our son was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. I continued therapy
during this time---- a place to vent and seek support!
We then retired and moved to Florida- I found a new therapist and he
is certified in HYPNOSIS.
HYPNOSIS is the most relaxing and productive therapy I have had.
It is the feeling you have when you drift off in a daydream---
but much more lasting! My Doc addresses my issues while I am in a relaxed
state--- such as building my self confidence- letting go of the past-
etc! He tapes each session and I keep the tape to use during the weeks to
follow. My daughter had several sessions with him and was able to resolve
her issues from abusive relationships with boyfriends. Her anger and guilt
and depression from this are gone!! If you chose HYPNOSIS make sure the
person is certified and trained to do hynotherapy!! And has experience using
it. I have finally found PEACE!! If you have questions about Hypnosis you want
to ask me feel free to email me! Eikooc742@aol.com Take care! Judy
