not looking forward to trying new meds

BLEH. Last week my therapist and I agreed that Wellbutrin-XL alone is not working for me, and that I need to see my doctor and try something else. I hate antidepressants. I hate them with a passion because of the horrible side effects and because each person responds to them differently and because it's basically a game of trial and error and wasted money until you find the right drug.

But I agreed to see the doctor. I have an appointment next week. I would never presume to go in there and demand a certain drug, but I do think it's important to be well informed. I've printed out a bunch of articles off WebMD that go through the major antidepressants available by class. I know that SSRIs are out. I refuse to touch them--they are poison in my body. I've tried Paxil, Zoloft, and Celexa. Each of them produced bad side effects.

I'm *hoping* I can get on another structurally unrelated drug like Wellbutrin since my body seems to tolerate it well. I think the trouble with Wellbutrin and why it just isn't working may be because it affects norepinephrine and dopamine and not serotonin. Maybe if I can add a drug that affects serotonin levels, it would help.

Hi, Laura! I hate the idea of starting new meds, too. In another post I mentioned the older antidepressants, tricyclics & MAOI's. They are still being used & have
