Bad day - scared

I am having a bad day. Actually a couple bad days. I feel really scared and jittery, panic attack type feelings. I feel really distracted and stupid like my brain isn't functioning. Like I'm slow. Impending doom!! Why is it that no matter how many times I have panic attacks, it's always so scary? I can't seem to shake this, it's been a couple days now like I said, on and off.

Sorry to hear this Allie. Is it close to period time? Have you had added stress?

I know that I am scared with every attack, even though I have had them for 36 years. I try to put the bad days behind me & move forward. The feelings you describe still nip @ my heels. I can't make it through without my belly breathing & good sleep/exercise/diet. Hopefully you know some tricks that will help you through. Drop into chat tonight. Post anytime.

You will be fine. Anxiety/panic can't hurt you. Just keep thinking on the positive side. Sending PT's your way. (((hugs))) jan

Hi Allie,

I know exactly how you are feeling and I too when I'm the most vulnerable or stressed these panic attacks take my mind somewhere else...it's paralysing. Everytime I tell myself that next time I will control it better I can't. The trick is to accept them and try to move on. I know it's hard to do but it passes. Doctor Phil said it clearly today on his show about anxiety and panic attacks: it's not your fear of whatever (planes, trains, ect) that does it to your mind it's the fear of losing control. A panic attack is the fear of losing control...it's not so stupid!!!

Take care

My major panic attacks have taken place at malls....lovely place to become distracted, fearful, etc. I find that I can function (not well, but function) if I focus on something. I have focused on an interesting sign, an a dust bunny that should be cleaned up, on my own wedding ring. I concentrate my senses and thoughts on that thing...and can move on for a little while anyway...after the panic subsides.

Thank you for the support. I know about focusing and stuff but it's hard right now with these feelings going on for so long. I can sustain attempts to concentrate on other things for a typical panic attack that lasts about an hour or so (with some difficulty, granted!), but this has been on and off for days. It doesn't reach the intensity of a full-blown panic attack, but just very high level anxiety. I am taking wellbutrin which hasn't really seemed to cause side effects for months but maybe it is now for some reason? I don't know. I just want to feel normal.

Hi Allie,

I know what you are going through all too well. I have my 1st panic attack about 1.5 years ago and I felt as you are describing for a few months. It took a lot to get me to the point where I accepted it and really believed that it would not hurt me.

Please take care and just do the best you can!!

I do have a couple xanax which I use when I fly - but what happens if I take it while I am taking wellbutrin? Won't they have a bad interaction?

Allie, since you already have xanax, definitely call your doctor & ask if you can take them when you need them for anxiety/panic attacks.
