asthma & anxiety

I have developed asthma in the last couple of years and I still haven't figured out how to deal with it. When I use the meds for asthma they make my anxiety go through the roof! And the more times I have to use them (inhaler for example) the worse my anxiety gets. I even lay down when I use my inhaler because it gives me the shakes (still) and laying down makes it less noticable. Anyone have any tips or help?

I know what you mean, Laura. I get the shakes too when I use my inhaler or take a nebulizer treatment. Once again, I have had good luck with the belly breathing. Alot of hospitals offer classes for ppl with breathing problems. There are methods taught to help learn to live with breathlessness & the shakiness from meds. It's a vicious cycle that can be prevented. Maybe you could ask your dr. about it. Also, over-use of inhalers is an indicator that your asthma isn't controlled well. Have you talked to the dr. about that? There are meds that can be taken that don't cause the shakiness

Thanks Jan! I didn't know there were classes like that! Dallas isn't too terribly far. I'll have to check into it!

Checking out the other group too!

Thanks again!
