Has anyone done behavior modification?

Hello, in case you haven't seen my other posts, I went off SSRI's cold turkey a couple weeks ago. I had some bad nausea and dizziness and brain zaps (finally figured out what they were!) but I feel good now. I want to manage my anxiety on my own. My issue is social anxiety specifically. Has anyone done behavior modification therapy? It sounds interesting, but I don't know much about it. Any input would be appreciated, especially if you deal with social anxiety too.

Cognitive behavioral therapy uses this technique. It is recommended for anxiety disorders. The therapist helps you identify patterns of behavior that don't work. Then, you learn new ways to cope. You will find lots of these methods in the *coping tips & tricks* folder, Cheryl. Have you found a therapist that uses behavior mod? You can teach yourself many of them. It doesn't require deep analysis. As humans we all learn how to change & adapt to our environment. I hope others will share their thoughts. (((hugs))) jan

No I haven't found a therapist that does this. I'm not sure how I could teach myself these things, because I know nothing about it...

I think of behavior modification as learning to react to things differently, changing your behaviors.

That makes sense... maybe I'll look for a book on it... the weird thing is, I don't get panic attacks. I'm an avoider, I go out of my way to avoid contact with people, and I really want to learn how to stop doing that.

I am just about to start behavior modification and am in the same boat as you. It makes sense that I try to modify whatever behavior I have let get out of control to the point that I sometimes have gut wrenching and extremely scary panic attacks that sometimes seem to go on forever and steadily keep increasing in strength.

I was at my therapy appointment last night and got some reinforcement on this.

I took one of those personality tests through a psychologist, and one of the areas I scored high on was peacekeeper, he said that's why I avoid situations and confrontations, always trying to keep things peaceful. He was very insightful on how to change that way of thinking and said that was one of the reasons I was prone to pa.

How can I related this to social anxiety? I just feel like, if I could simply talk or think myself out of this, I would have done it by now...
