Having a Hard time getting to work today
| Wed, 10-11-2006 - 1:14pm |
Hello Everyone,
I have been off of work the last two days due
to starting the higher dose of Zoloft and having
a ton of anxiety. The doctor gave me more xanax
yesterday to relieve this anxious feeling. I've
only been taking the Zoloft for 1 and 1/2 weeks.
I wish it were easier to just snap out of this and
get myself into that factory. I have a lot of anxiety
with my job. It can be a tough and dirty environment.
Do you think I should take the rest of the week off and
hope that the zoloft will be working by then?
Thank you for any advice,
Ann

hi ann,
i have no great words of wisdom, only you and your therapist/doc can decide whats right for you, but wanted to offer my support and say hi.
Thanks for replying,
I went for a ride to the bookstore (always hoping for the
miracle information). Went to the doctor's office and made an
appointment for tomorrow morning.
It is hard to get even with these medications. I've been on
so many between depression/anxiety and a seizure disorder. I
was thinking today if my whole life is going to revolve around
this.
Thanks, I'm trying to stay positive,
Ann
(((Ann))) This is a tough time for you & I'm sorry. It will take the zoloft 4 to 6 weeks to reach optimal effect. Though it will begin to gradually work until that point. In my personal experience, not facing the fears by staying home isn't an option. I worked about 9 minutes drive from my home & the panic started while driving. Because I couldn't get through 9 minutes, I quit my job. It was 3 years before I was able to drive again. If I had taken the xanax, (I was too stubborn to help myself) I know it would have relaxed me enough to make that drive. Also, facing the music, so to speak though challenging is the best thing we can do for ourselves.
Do you have the option of going just for a half day & telling yourself that if it gets bad, then you will return home? Can you keep busy @ work? Think positively & belly breathe? It's always better to try & get that workday under your belt & remind yourself that you can do it! Good luck! Keep in touch. (((hugs))) jan
(((Ann))) It's still too early for the Zoloft to be working.

Hi Ann,
I think taking it at your own pace and waiting until you feel a bit better is probably the best way to go. It will be a lot more support in dealing with the additional anxiety from work if your meds are really working effectively.
Hugs,
Dee
Thanks Dee,
I'm going to my doctor this morning and talking to him
about these panic attacks/anxiety. I could never quit my
job so I'm not worried about that. I'm a single woman and
need to get this under control. It's been two weeks tomorrow
taking the zoloft. Plus, I've been taking xanax to sleep at
night. See, I can't take too much xanax because of the risk
of having seizures. I have a history of seizures. Luckily,
I haven't had any since last March.
The psychiatrist put me on zoloft because it has little chance
of disturbing seizures. I was taking Paxil for four years but
had to stop because of the side effects of having seizures.
Thanks so much Ladies,
I need this support,
Ann

Hi All,
The doctor told me to see how it goes with the Zoloft
getting into my system. He told me that if I'm not feeling
any better on Monday to definitely give him a call.
I've got the xanax too, I just want to be careful not to
take too many medications. I know you all understand that.
Plus, the anxiety has been high at work with us getting a
lay off one week, working a couple and getting another lay-off.
Everyone is stressed about Ford cutting all those jobs.
Thanks so much for asking,
Ann
Thank-you for the update!
