My mouth device protects my teeth, but it's really for the apnea. It pushes your lower jaw forward to keep your airway open. Uncomfy in the beginning and causes a lot of drooling (very attractive). My dentist can see where my enamel is worn away so it's a good thing I'm wearing this device or my teeth would be nubs.
I'm pretty sure you can get a mouth guard at a drugstore or sporting goods store. Mine is a medical device and cost $1500. You don't need to go to that extreme.
Have you been tested for apnea? It can be very dangerous because it puts strain on your heart and definitely causes you not to feel refreshed even after 12+ hours of sleep.
I never had a sleep study either. But, the dr. ordered a pulse oxyimeter to be worn @ home for a night. One of those clothespin like things you clip to your finger. KWIM? The medical supply people brought the machine to the house & showed me how to use it. It rang once during the night that my oxygen took a dip. The dr. never felt that was a problem.
I just thought that it might be an option for you, Sheri Ann. I don't know how much it would cost. (((hugs))) jan

Hmmm...I think I have sleep apnea, but have never been diagnosed.
