What meds are you on? If you don't mind

my asking.
I'm hopefully going to go see a psychiatrist soon - waiting for his call-back - but I'm wondering what meds you have tried and/or are currently on now. What drugs helped you? What drugs didn't help you? What side-effects if any did you experience?
I'm sort of ready to throw my hands up and surrender to meds. I've tried the more traditional form of therapy with a psychologist for the past few years and then last week the panic attacks started up again. I'm convinced it's peri-menopause (and I've checked out the menopause board here) because of the way my body has changed over the past few months. I'm just frustrated and want to reclaim my life back and if meds are the answer (for now) then I'm game.
Any replies will be appreciated.

Ok, I will try with all my might to stay calm. As long as you say you've experienced similar things and this is normal I'll tough it out. As I said, hopefully by the time I get out of work I've calmed down a little to drive, then I'll sprint over to CVS, pick up the smaller dosage and try it again tomorrow. It's just such an uncomfortable feeling. It's also hard to concentrate at work. I've had 6 typos just typing this posting.
Okay, deep breaths. I put my Sirius radio on Easy Movin' music to stay calm. The Bee Gees are on now.
SIGH
Thanks again,

Hi
Im on 75mg of effexor and a mood stabilizer for bipolar II. Although i could stand to take a higher dose of both i choose the lower because i hate that i have to depend on them but i know better than to think i can do without. I have my days when i question that but overall it is a good decision.
I have tried Celexa, Prozac, Xanax, Zoloft, Wellbutin and others i cant remember.
Thanks for your reply. I need all the support I can get. (wink)
I'm thinking of skipping it tomorrow and strting it on Saturday morning, stay home and use that energy to maybe clean the house? The funny thing is I wanted to curl up under my desk or on a sofa and take a nap because it was just so unnerving. When I walk around it isn't as noticeable and I am a little better now. Sitting still is when I notice it the most. I figure I'll skip the dosage tomorrow and wait until Saturday to pop my next pill. I'm a little calmer now than before so maybe this is a good sign I'll calm down before the drive home. What a pain in the asterisk! (don't want to curse here - wink). I'm also drinking water to see if it will flush through my system a little quicker and I just ate my lunch even though I wasn't that hungry.
When one of my bosses walked by at one point I was fanning myself because I just started sweating so naturally since I told him about these past few weeks (I can talk to him this way, I've worked with him for 10 years now) he looked at me and said 'hot flash?' and I just told him yes. His wife is going through menopause so he said he can sympathize (a little) since he sees what she goes through. I chatted with her recently and we both laughed a little about the changes that happen as we get older.
Thanks again and be well,
Bennie

Is a slight head ache or stiff neck normal too? I'm not taking anything else today, I've calmed down quite a bit from the earlir caffeine high I felt like I was on at 11:00. Thanks again for the hand holding.

No headaches for me or even a stiff neck. That sounds very much like muscle tension & I do get that when anxious. If this doesn't resolve, maybe you're coming down with something.
If you want to try on Sat. that seems like a good idea to me. Noone wants their new meds effecting them @ work. By Mon. your 2 doses should be nearly halfway through those 3 to 5 days of *discombobulating* effects. Good luck, Bennie. (((hugs))) jan
Well I was just prescribed Paxil & Xanax today. Don't really know how I feel about it. I guess on one hand hopeful that it will work for me and yet I also feel afraid that they will "freak" me out.
I have tried Paxil before and think that it worked rather well. I also tried Lexapro and did not like it at all. It amplified my panic/anxiety.
Wish you all the luck and hope that you can find something that will help you.
Take care,
Rob
