Ug! New trigger

I've been doing well for a while now being on paxil but today, I've discovered a new trigger. I don't go into full blown anxiety attacks, but its definately not a good feeling. Everytime I see an elderly person or couple on tv or in life, I get upset that I myself will be elderly one day. Thats not what gets me, its the fact that I fear I will live the next 50+ years suffering bouts of anxiety and depression. I don't want to face this the rest of my life. Will I even enjoy my grandkids? I love children and think being a grandma will be the greatest gift of my life! But, will I be in bed, unable to cope or stuck on the couch drugged up? I'm a sad about this. Any thoughts?

(((Candace))) Don't let this get ahead of you and/or get a grip. Start thinking positively ASAP. I have had panic attacks for 36 years. I have had many more good years, than bad. In fact, I have said many times, that these spells are just a blip on the radar screen of your life.

Get plenty of sleep & exercise. Eat well. Make time for yourself to celebrate YOU! Write a list of positive affirmations that you can refer to when the anxious thoughts appear. You WILL get better. This is a fear we all have had @ times. This may be due to the weaning off of xanax. It should pass in a few days. Keep your chin up. By the time you are older, you will have many coping techniques in place. You will be an awesome gramma. Good luck & GBU! jan

hi candace,

i think the key to working through this is to work on focusing on one day at a time...i need to work on this too!

Hi Candace,

I don't have much advice. Just wanted to offer support and (((hugs))).

I like the postive affirmations idea.

Thank you for your words Jan, they were really inspiring. One day at a time is much less overwhelming than looking at a lifetime! It is the classic anxiety over another anxiety attack. I forgot that most anxiety sufferers do have this fear as well. Time to let it go and experience life and see the good things it has to offer instead of the scary things. I'm forcing a smile, breathing deeply and reminding myself that I do have the ativan if I really need it.
