Hi there,

I am new to this board...I've always been a "worrier", but due to becoming a single mom, moving, being broke...etc etc etc....my anxiety levels are through the roof and I am not coping. I would say I suffer from a small "level" of depression..but mostly anxiety.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone has taken Celexa for anxiety? I unfortunately don't have much faith in my family doctor (I feel she doesn't actually listen to me), but she acknowledges that I am not severely depressed, just mostly anxious, and today she prescribed me celexa. However, whatever I pull up to do with Celexa mentions only depression.

If you're taken Celexa for anxiety, any experiences to share?
Thanks very much, hope to get to know you guys better!
take care,
Amy

I've been on Celexa for anxiety for about three months now. So far, so good. It seems to help control the obsessive worry, but the effects haven't been overt. It's just like I noticed one day that I was less anxious and worrying about little stuff less.

Hope this helps!

Hi, Amy! Glad to see you found our caring community. I have not taken celexa for anxiety, but others on our board have. It is used successfully for anxiety, as well as depression. Most antidepressants can be used for anxiety, as they act on the serotonin levels in the brain that seem to contribute to both illnesses.

Have you considered therapy? That can be very useful in identifying what stresses us & how to learn new ways to react. It doesn't mean that you're crazy or that you need deep, dark analysis for the rest of your life. You might consider checking out our *coping tips & tricks* folder below. I taught myself meditation & belly breathing to help ease my anxiety & panic attacks. There's plenty of alternatives out there. Being kind to yourself since you've encountered many life changes is the best. Getting plenty of sleep, exercise

Thanks very much for the replies!!! I am hoping Celexa works for me! I just thought I'd check with others in similar situations...just cause I'm never sure if my doctor actually heard the words that came out of my mouth, lol!

Thanks for the welcome to the board!

I would love to try therapy, I think it would benefit me, I just have no idea where to start, because there's no way I can afford counselling, but I don't know where to find "free" or "cheap" therapy....wish me luck.

Thanks, take care!

I recently began taking Celexa (dr. changed from Lexapro) and I mostly have anxiety too. I also take Wellbutrin and the two together really seem to have helped. Don't get me wrong, I have my moments but I am also trying breathing technicues to help control it. I hope everything works out for you.
