Our family has two big 'ole cats, Jim & Phoebe, a 5 year old black lab (couch potato), Cleo, a guinea pig named Chocolate and a stray Momma rescue cat with 3 (out of six) cute 8 week old kittens left. I refuse to name 'em, cause they aint's staying. LOL

I love all our critters, but sometimes the daily care adds to my stress a bit, especially black dog hair all over! We sweep up enough to make another dog each week.

Do your critters comfort you when no one else can? Mine seem to know just when to come sit one/with me when I'm blue.

How about it? How many have you got and what do they do? Entertaining stories?

Our first cat Jim and our dog Cleo rode around the country with us when DH and I were truckdrivers. Jim escaped and "vacationed" for two weeks in Virginia and for a week in New Mexico...locals took him in, called my Mom's phone # on his collar and we were able to come back to pick him up. We finally had to put up a "tieout" in the truck and hook him in whenever we opened the doors. LOL Jim is really a character...he has cattitude.

Smiles,
Dee

I am a furmom to Chloe, an American Eskimo. She was rescued from the humane society for the kids. Guess who she really belongs too;) LOL Having been abused, she was fearful & exhibited alot of behavioral problems that the vet advised therapy for. Dang it! I couldn't afford therapy for her & me both! But with alot of patience & love, she is a confident dog today!

We have 3 cats. Sugar, white with black spots & rescued. She's overweight & has a belly like St. Nick!Precious, a tortoise shelled momma that we acquired from my gf. After 6 months of catsitting, we were unable to give her back. Then, there's Bapu, a buff colored showpiece that lives on the back of the sofa. He showed up @ our backdoor years ago & adopted us. Our neighborhood cat hater, had a round-up of the stray cats & poor Bapu was taken to the pound accidentally. Believe it or not, we found him there 3 days & many bawling heads later, living in a cage, not eating @ all & happy to see us. For $19.84 I bought my own cat BACK! I still have the papers to prove it. LOL

Nice question, Dee! Thx. (((hugs))) jan

I love my furbabies (well, except for the hamster) very much. We have one doxie named Max and a springer spaniel named Annie who we inherited from my in-laws when they got sick and passed away. The 2 dogs get along great. Both are on the older side (Max-10, Annie -13).

Max usually sleeps with me and is big cuddlebaby. He is a great comfort to me and if we're sick or something we call on "Dr. Max". Annie can be too but she is a bit shyer since we've only had her about a year.

The hamster, well that was my dd's thing and this will be the last hamster we get!

Dee I'm sure you've heard I'm the rescuer of unwanted and abused animals. So my list is long. I'll try to put them in order of them coming to live with us.

Tootie..... a tortise shell female cat whom we picked up out of the middle of a busy highway that runs through town. She is also the beginning of our cat population which I will not name, too many lets say.

Cubbie....... an aidale we rescuded out of a freezing creek. He's been with us almost 6 years.

Lucky my mustang....... We rescued him from an abusive home. He's the first horse I've ever had and a little girls dream come true. Who would have ever thought I'ld have my own horse.

Taz Mel's horse........we took care of this one for 3 years before her her owner sold her to us.........one of the few babies we have that was not neglected or abused.

Nanny goat...............she's a show goat that was being used in Lexington to keep the racing horses calm.

Lil Girl......she's just an adopted mutt........but she's my mutt so that makes her special

Buck a roo Billy.........a miniture goat that my garbage man dropped off here with my permission....the look on Mels face when this guy shows up with this goat was precious.

Various roosters and hens that have been rescued from various farms and rooster fights.......yes i did say rooster fights these people are vicious around here.

That's my group at this time but that can always change.....I think people are getting the idea down here we'll take on their unwanted babies and they'll be treated with respect and love.

Wow Keitha,

What a wonderful crew! I grew up with riding horses and a farm of "pet" critters. DH and I would love to move back to the country again.

Jennifer,

There is always something special about the pets who choose us. I am soo tempted to keep some of this rescued kitty clan, but our house is just too small and it wouldn't be fair to our two middle-aged brats. LOL

I'm sure we'll find good homes for the kittens, but may end up spaying and keeping Momma cat.

Dee

Awww, my family had a huge Newfoundland named Cloey when I was very little (like a year old) but I still remember her. I used to ride that dog. LOL
