hi! welcome! I am the same way, and you are not alone in this. I was given the zoloft in September and still have not take it, or the xanax. It is something that everyone goes thru and it will get better if we take the meds that we are give. Every one on this board is really supportive and they willgive the best advise that they can however we have the power to follow thru with it. I know it really sucks feeling like this, maybe you should start seeing a theripist, thats what i have been doing and it has been helping. On this wednesday I am going and she is actually going to talk me thru the meds. good luck to you.

Hi! Nice to see you on board;) Everyone here has had problems with anxiety issues. You are NOT alone.

I have had panic for 36 years. I also have a fear of meds. Though I have never taken zoloft, I have taken many antidepressants like it. I don't do well when I read the side effects, so I throw those drug inserts out right away. I have taken my first pill in the doctor's office & sat in the waiting room to be sure I was going to be alright. The first few days, it helps to be with others when I take the pill. It reassures me that *IF* I needed help, I wouldn't be alone. If you could write your fear of meds down on a piece of paper, that might help. Keep the side effects in perspective. Not everyone gets side effects & noone gets all the side effects. Zoloft is a safe & effective med. Many ppl have posted to this board about it. Your dr. wouldn't have ordered a drug that wasn't safe for you. In fact, the drug wouldn't have been approved by the Food & Drug Administration if it wasn't safe. Think positive thoughts when negativity hits.

Please post anytime. We care & know that you can feel better. Check out our *coping tips & tricks* folder below. It has many ideas to help with the anxiety/panic. Take care. Good luck & GBU! (((hugs))) jan

Hi,

I was recently diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and started therapy, although I am not taking meds yet. My DH had to try several antidepressants before finding one that works well for him, but nothing terrible happened with any of them, just not the most effective for him. His depression and mood really improved and he is much happier now.

Welcome! and I hope you come talk with us again. It's a very friendly and supportive group here and we are all coping with anxiety and panic issues.

Hugs,
Dee

You're not alone. I am riding the pharmaceutical merry go round right now. The first anti depressant the doctor gave me wasn't right for me, so now I'm trying #2. As well as taking Xanax and just tried Ambien for the first time last night. I am not crazy about taking medication, but I took Prozac for post partum depression 6 years ago and it helped immensely. So I am confident I will find something that will work for me.

It's hard because you don't know what's caused by your anxiety and what's caused by your meds. I am taking it day by day. Yesterday sucked, but today was a good day. LOL I am keeping a journal so that helps me track my progress. I am making progress. I know have more than a few hours a day where I feel normal which is a big step forward from 2 or 3 weeks ago.

I'm also seeing a therapist, and I consulted a psychiatrist about my medications. The psychiatrist specializes in how all these things work together. I have been second guessing myself since I feel like I'm all over the map with this, but he said the meds I'm on are appropriate.

It takes a while for the meds to kick in, so hang in there. My psychiatrist said he likes to see some change after the first 2 weeks, but they don't take full effect for as long as 4-8 weeks.

Hi!

I don't have panic disorder, but I have some anxiety issues and my doctor prescribed me the lowest dose of Zoloft (25). If it makes you feel any better, I have not experienced any side effects, I just noticed it makes me a little drowsy, so I take it before bed. I was nervous about taking it at first, so I took my first one in the afternoon so I would know how it affected me. Some people get insomnia, some people get tired. That can help you determine the best time of the day to take it. It's only been 3 days so I don't really notice any effect yet. Good luck.
