Chest pains can be so many things that it's so hard to determine what it is and if it is something to worry about. I have had chest pains with my anxiety pretty much since the first Panic attack years ago. I have them on and off and often for no reason what so ever! That's what scares me most is when it's out of the blue and I'm really not stressed out. But it's common.. muscles in the chest tighten when we become on edge even when we don't realize it. The question to ask yourself is if it's new. If anxiety is new to you and so is the chest pain - chances are good that the two are just together.
I just got over a head cold, and then two weeks later got hit with a chest cold that had me feeling terrible, having chest pressure, and coughing up gross stuff. (sorry)
I've always read that any chest pain is worth evaluation! The heart is obviously something that we can't just take out like an appendix. :) But I'd be willing to bet that it's just the anxiety. The main thing is if you are feeling short of breath, pains in the left jaw or arm and a feeling of weakness.. you need to be evaluated fairly quickly just to rule out more serious health issues. If you aren't experiencing any of those things.. I'd say just give you family doctor a call in the next week or so and just ask their opinion on what you should do. I know that if you are like me, they'll tell you not to worry and you will anyways - heck I had an EKG in the ER once and I thought.. ok they are doing this test after the pains stopped.. how's the test going to read what my heart was doing half an hour ago.. but they are drs. and they go through all that schooling for a reason. ;)
Try not to fret too much. Good luck - and let me know what you end up doing.
(((Tina))) I am sorry to hear that your cold has intensified your anxiety. That is very common to those in our community. Any sort of physical illness triggers my *what if* thinking.
Chest pains should never be ignored regardless of your sex or age. If you are nauseated, dizzy, sweating, short of breath or any symptoms that cause you concern, call the dr. or go to the local ER. It's very easy for us to diagnose ourselves as being seriously ill when we aren't. But, I admit to getting a professional opinion because I needed the reassurance. My dr. is very understanding about my anxiety & medical fears. I hope your's is too.
Pleae take it easy & get well soon. How about some rest today? You may have overdone it yesterday when you were feeling under the weather. Good luck & GBU! jan
