Hi- brief background! Around 2 years ago I was on my child's school board & it entailed alot of planning which lead to some stressful moments. Then one day while driving I had a panic attack (my 1st). Over the few years have bounced from Lexapro, Paxil, Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Klonopin, Effexor(horrible withdrawals). They have had side effects so hard to deal with!! My doc about 3 weeks put me on Buspar-I'm so so dizzy, brain zaps, major anxiety! NOW to the heart of all this- since Buspar I haven't driven. My anxieties are so bad. So afraid that I will pass out while driving. At home i'm able to control my "stress/anxieties" since I have 3 kids my life is quite full ,but on those moments I just do deep breathing & close my eyes. Can't exactly do when driving! It is just the "anticipation" of driving -I get major heart racing, butterflies, etc. Anyways, my aunt suggested Xanax, but afraid of addition. It is brought me to a depressed state cause i can't enjoy my life & my kids want to take them to parties, ballet, etc.
Thanks for listening!!

Hello! Nice to see you;) I can assure you that driving fears are commonly discussed on the board. You are NOT alone.

I posted in the *coping tips & tricks* folder below some ways to reduce stress behind the wheel. If you can keep up with the belly breathing, but keep your eyes open, too, you will have it made!

When I had serious problems with driving, my psychiatrist taught me relaxation techniques.

I understand how you feel. My fear is thinking about where I will have to drive to, and parking. Don't know why I am like that. I generally am fine once I am on my way. But then when I need to park it will come back again, till I'm done parking. I have 3 kids myself and often wonder how I am going to handle it once they start getting involved with different activities. I know what you mean about not wanting to get addicted to something, but if it helps you with your daily life and functioning I say it's worth it. Plus there's counseling and therapy, don't know much about how it relates to driving, but I know you can get help with this. Good luck!

It sounds like the Buspar is definitely not the med for you.
