For those on Klonopin

I was on Klonopin and it worked beautifully. But now I am completely off of it. My physicatrist doesn't want me on it, because it is addicting.
What were you told about it. I really feel that I need to be on something. I take Prozac 40mg at day. I really don't like where I am right now. Just want to isolate myself, because that way I don't have to deal with things. When I was on Klonopin, it was the first time in my life that I felt I was in control.

Hi! I know that you posted about this before. It must be distressing for you. TBH, no med is the cure-all for anxiety. New coping skills are needed to deal with our anxiety/panic.
I have been on klonopin on & off. I only took it for short periods of time to deal with severe anxiety. This past summer, my dr. suggested that I increase it because I had surgery. The complications were triggering some severe anxiety/panic. I did not increase it. It scared me too much. I belly breathed, meditated & practiced relaxation exercises. In August, I was able to stop taking the 0.25mg. twice a day.
Like you, I have been told & have read that it can be addictive. It is not recommended for use more than a year. As you posted before, you had developed a tolerance to it. I am sure your dr. has your best interests in mind. He is the only one who can diagnose & prescribe medications. We cannot do that here. Please tell him how distressed you are. There are alternatives such as accupuncture, hypnosis, massage therapy, etc. Many are posted in our *coping tips & tricks* folder below.
I hope you get to feeling better. Please take care & let us know how you're doing. GL! (((hugs))) jan
Hi there,
I'm sorry to here you are having a difficult time. :-( I have the option of taking klonopin for my anxiety as well. What I do, is only take it as needed. If I am feeling very anxious, or am having a panic attack, that is when I take it. You doctor probably worries about the dangers of being on the medication so long, and can also get in trouble prescribing medication if the patient is addicted. To my understanding, these medications are only meant to be used for 4-6 weeks. What I would do, is definetly tell you doctor how you are feeling, and maybe he can come up with an alternative. Perhaps maybe take a pill when you feel you absolutely need it.
I am learning that there isn't a miracle cure, and you have to work with medication and coping skills. Having a long hot bath, excersising or massage therapy really helps me to relax. Taking about it helps me as well. I find it very hard to distract myself from the anxiety at times, so I will then go for a drive or go spend some time with someone else. I find the key to beating this is to keep BUSY. It is very hard, and you have to practice. Crosswords, wordsearches, games on the internet, or joining a group also help. I know there are herbal medicines you can take from a herbal store, but of course we have to ask our doctors for whether we can take them or not.
If you need to talk about something, I will be glad to listen!
Take care,
Amy.
