Buspirone VS. Buspar

I am currently on the generic form of Buspar, Buspirone for anxiety. I take 10 mg at night and 5 mg in the morning. Is there a difference between generic and name brand? I have heard conflicting stories that the generic isn't as good. Going to see pych soon and wonder if I would have better results on the brand version.
Also, anyone experiencing any side effects? I notice I have hot flashes on this drug through out the day. Is anyone else experiencing the same?
Would love to hear from this great community pros and cons of Buspar and Buspirone.
Happy Holidays!
Dana

Hi Dana,
I don't know much about those meds specifically. I don't think there is any significant different between generics and name brand for drugs except that the exclusive production rights lapsed and another company steps in to make it cheaper.
DH and I have both used a wide variety of generics successfully. In fact DH is on a generic antidepressant now.

I have to agree with Dee. All meds are regulated by the FDA & must contain the same amount(active ingredient) whether it is brand name or generic. In my state of PA, all drugs must be filled with the generic if there's a generic available, unless the dr. specifies otherwise. Many insurance companies will not pay for the brand name if the generic is available.
We have had a couple of people say that buspar was effective for their anxiety disorder. Hopefully they will see your post & reply. I took the highest recommended dose without any relief of my anxiety/panic for about 4 months. Though I had side effects, I found the use of SSRI's most helpful. Everyone is different & each med effects us differently.
Nice to see you posting on the board. Keep in touch. GL! (((hugs))) jan
