Welcome! I am a nontraditional college student, wife and mother to a 3yr old DD. My anxiety started a few years ago. I was recently diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I started therapy a few weeks ago and it seems to be helpful, but I still get really anxious.
Expecially the last few weeks, because of the end of semester crunch, it has been extremely stressful. I actually haven't had a lot of time to talk online. LOL I just turned in my final papers for three classes and now just need to make it through review days and finals next week. Yay!

Those sound like good coping techniques...I like anything that sounds "positive". I've been reading "Positive Discipline" for ideas to use with my DD. She is a great kid, but of course is full of energy and enjoys expressing her opinions! LOL
I can't imagine going through all this 40 years ago. One of my coworkers who suffers from anxiety said her mother in law told her she would have been taken away by the men in white coats 50 years ago. And my own pastor, a Vietnam vet with PTSD said "Oh honey we all would have been locked up." He told me he used to take his kids to the movies and sit in the row behind them and cry silently. :-( Part of me resisted taking drugs for this when I first experienced it, but now am I so thankful we live in a time where we have all kinds of help available to us. My husband said the fear of being institutionalized years ago was probably a powerful motivator for a lot of people to at least "pretend" they were fine.
I will try to pick up some of those books you mentioned. I am a firm believer in the mind/body connection, and having gone through postpartum depression 6 years ago and now this, I don't believe "it's all in your head." I think our minds, our emotions and our bodies work together in mysterious and powerful ways.

Hi Dee,
InDEEd you sound so much like me in 1966; I take that back, you actually you sound in much better shape than I was.
Thanks Manny,
