I just joined the antidepressant medicine message board and thought I'd head over here to see if I can find more Lexapro users. I was diagnosed with chronic stress and prescribed Lexapro after suffering from insomnia off and on for years. Other docs have diagnosed me as depressed and I've been on Prozac and Wellbutrin but they didn't seem to help my insomnia so I figured it was because it was the wrong diagnosis. If I was really depressed, then eventually the antidepressants should have improved my insomnia. After being on them for at least 6 months I came to the conclusion that I must not be depressed since the medicines never helped the insomnia. My current doc thought it might be stress and put me on the Lexapro. It is the first thing that has helped my sleeping without it being a super strong benzo drug. I feel weird saying I take a pill for anxiety for anxiety sounds so strong. I feel that what I have is an inability to deal with stress. It builds up and then BAM I don't sleep for a week. Maybe that IS the definition of anxiety? I guess when I hear the word anxiety I picture someone having an anxiety attack and I've never experienced anything like that. Anywho, just curious if there are any Lexapro users out there. What symptoms did you get from the Lexapro and how long before they subsided? I initally had zero appetite and a sensation of fullness after eating only a small handful of food. I wouldn't be able to eat for another 5-6 hours later. Lost a few lbs since starting the Lexapro Oct 31 and also had lost about 4-6 lbs prior to taking the Lexapro since the insomnia also knocked out my appetite. I also have felt very "druggy" since starting the Lexapro (10 mg). I was told to take it in the morning but after 2 weeks, I decided to start pushing the time back and now I take it before bed. That has helped the druggy feeling only a little. Do you think I might be taking too much? Or is this sensation normal and will eventually subside? I'm going to try to take slightly less than a whole pill and see if that might help. Sorry to ramble. Thanks for any input on Lexapro.

Hello & welcome. It's nice to have you here. Insomnia can be associated with stress, anxiety, depression & all sorts of medical conditions. Since we aren't professionals, we can't give you a diagnosis. It's always an option to see another doctor or have some lab tests done to give you reassurance.
When you say you can't sleep, do you have racing thoughts or restlessness? Do you have frequent worries about health issues
I'm glad you popped over!
