weening off meds/hair loss

Hey there,

I am slowly weening off Effexor, but I am still on Paxil. My anxiety level is through the roof, and I am wondering if it has to do with going off the effexor. Also, has anyone ever experienced hair loss with these meds? I feel like my hair is falling out, and it's making me crazy. I don't know if it is a hormonal thing, or if it is just a part of getting older.

Anyways, I can't seem to give myself a break. I just got off the phone with a friend, and she was cold as ice to me. I know she was busy, and it had nothing to do with me, but I can't stop worrying that maybe I did something wrong. I am trying to tell myself she was busy, and planning for a party, but I just keep hearing her tone. It's like I am always waiting for the other shoe to fall.

Thanks for listening.

(((Jolie))) Sorry to hear this. I bet it's really scary. From what I have read, hair loss in women is common as they age. But, you are very young. OTOH, stress can cause hair loss, as well as certain illnesses. Please check with your dr. We have a good message board on iVillage:

I experience hair loss every time I change medication, even if its just the dose. It lasts a couple of weeks and slowly stops and the hair comes back. I was very alarmed at first because I already have really thin hair. I thought I was going bald! Thank goodness it stopped and now I'm fine. Also, from what I hear, coming off efexor can be pretty rough. Hang in there and communicate with your doctor if it becomes unbearable.
