My dad, my sister and both my brothers have anxiety/depression issues. I also have several cousins with anxiety issues as well. I come by it naturally.

Thanks, Becky! As you know, the fear of the fear can become overwhelming & @ times incapacitating. Many of us on the board are works in progress when it comes to pushing through & not allowing ourselves to be deterred. It's an inspiration to read that you faced the crowds & made it! Congrats! jan

My little bro and I have often discussed the anxiety problems we have in common. We both sometimes suffer from moderate to severe generalized anxiety when we're very stressed out and under a lot of pressure. We also both have intermittent anxiety problems in crowded places. I say "intermittent" because they don't seem to follow a trend. For example, both of us have been able to attend crowded small-venue concerts, but we've also both freaked out in a busy Wal-Mart.

I try to avoid places I know will have BIG crowds (1000+) or that will be very busy (the mall this time of year). When I need to attend an event with a large attendance, I've learned to arrive early enough to grab an aisle seat. In large auditoriums, that's preferably in an outside section.

Speaking in groups used to be a problem for me. The past year has brought me more self-acceptance and a new outlook and approach to my interactions with other people. I've found that extends to talking in front of or as part of groups as well.

Our Dad may have social anxiety and crowd-related anxiety as well. He avoids crowded places and events whenever possible. When he has to go, he stays on the fringes and keeps to himself. He hasn't confirmed it, but I think that's pretty good reason to suspect.

(I'm posting a lot tonight, aren't I? hehehe)
