i keep thinking that im going to develop some serious mental disorder from these panic attacks.. i have them all the time and im so tired. i can never sleep a whole nights through and i know i do it to myself i just dont know how to control my thoughts and feelings. i keep thikning im going to get like schizophrenia and start seeing things and hearing people tlaking to me. i know that sounds silly but it scares me so bad. i just try to look towards the future and know that eveything will work out. i just wish it would stop and this medicince would start working i have been on it for like 5 weeks. im so tired, alsosince yesterday i have felt like the middle of my forehead has been so tense. i dont know if thats normal, i have recently been through alot but i dont worry about it or obsess about the abortion. i just know it was best for me. could it still be causing these sleepless nights and tension in my head? is ist normal to be afraid of getting serisouly ill?
thanks for listening

Hi, Melissa! I am sorry to hear about your fears. You are NOT alone. Many of us fear losing control or losing our minds. That will NOT happen. Also, fear of real illness is a *biggie* with folks suffering from anxiety. I am constantly focusing on my heart. (That I will have a heart attack.) But, I have had that fear for 36 years. My heart checks out just fine @ the doctor's. I am still alive & well;)

Today is Christmas & I hope that re-focusing on the good things in your life will help. I hope you'll be able to connect with family & friends. If you're a person of faith, put your trust in a Higher Power. Keeping our minds & bodies active when these scary thoughts happen is the best way to cope. Focus on what is going on *here & now.* Not what is past or future as we have no control over that. Eat well, exercise & doing things that you enjoy will help to relax you. Please read through our *coping tips & tricks* folder below. Without belly breathing, relaxation & meditation, I would be suffering with the anxious thoughts. You CAN help yourself. Also, there's information on how to sleep better. When you come to the bottom of the page, click on the *MORE* button, as there are a few more pages of tips.

I hope you're holidays are the best ever. We care & want you to have the life you deserve. Sending P&PT's your way. (((hugs))) jan

(((Melissa)))

Sorry to hear you are feeling so anxious...muscle tension can be an effect. I get a lot of sore/tense muscles from my Generalized Anxiety.

Try to concentrate on some nice distractions and let yourself off the hook for holiday stress. Hope you are having a Happy Holiday, despite all this. Maybe try the Christmas Day chat tonight?

Welcome and hope to talk again.

Hugs,
Dee

hi thanks for replying. im going to do what sheri ann said and try and see if my dr can give me anything but unfortunatly i dont see him until the 5th. oh well, i just hate the way i feel and i know its because i cant sleep. i have been eating healthier, well besides the christmas dinnner, ha, and drinking no caffeine. i havent had any in like amonth. i drink hot tea at night. which i think really helps me fall asleep, cause i have no problem with that its just staying asleep throughout the night. i woke up twice last night but i think i got like 5 or 6 hours of sleep. i wish i could get more. i have started yoga and reading a book on meditation but im not sure i have the hang of it yet.

i know im not going crazy, cause they say people dont loose thier minds from panic attacks, but it just scares me to think that i could.

love,
melissa

Hi Melissa,

It's great that you are taking steps towards a healthier lifestyle. Let me know how the Yoga and meditation work out...I find that really interesting.

Eating healthier is something I need to work on! I am a morning coffee addict, but managed to cut all caffeine after my morning "fix". ;)

Good luck & glad to talk with you.

Smiles,
Dee

thanks for the support. how long have you had anxiety problems? i have only had mine for 2 months and im so over it. i just want to get better and i just feel like the medicine i am on isnt doing anything for me. its been 5 weeks already and i dont go back to the therapist til the 8th and im barely sleeping at night but i am going to do what jan said and check out the coping ttricks and tips section and see if there is anything to help me out. i feel like it is effecting all the people i love. especially my bf i am always so exhausted and i used to never be like that. i always wake up throughout the night and during the days i dont really have and full blown panic attacks like i used to but im always tense because im constantly worrying about having another one or "loosing it" like most people say. are there other people out there that have the same problems i do?
what shouold i do about this medicine? im on prozac.

love,
melissa

I suffered from the constant panic attacks, anxiety and insomnia. Finally my ob/gyn put me on an antidepressant (Lexapro) which I've been taking for a couple of months. My internist had given me an Rx for Xanax, and they helped me sleep and relax, but it only worked for 4 hours. I finally saw a psychiatrist who sorted out my meds. I tried Ambien for sleep - that did nothing for me. Then I tried Klonopin - similar to Xanax, not a 'sleep' med exactly but it helps. I am now getting 8 hours a night which helps my anxiety greatly. I've only been taking Klonopin for a month and he said I can wean off it whenever I'm ready.

Fear of taking a sleep med is VERY common. But if you do it short term, under a competent physician's care, you shouldn't become dependent on it. I fall asleep on my own without the Klonopin, but I found I was waking after 3-4 hours regularly. I'm going to try weaning off it in a couple of weeks in the hopes that my sleep cycle has gone back to normal...

I also exercise regularly, and I have given up caffeine and alcohol (you can't drink on these meds) which both affect sleep negatively. I am trying to cut way back on the processed sugar too, but that has been hard with holidays.

In my experience, Melissa, it does take 2 or 3 tries before the right medication & dosage is found. We have a few folks on lexapro, including Sheri Ann our co-cl. It's a good med too. Don't be afraid to try something different. Noone, including you, should suffer anymore than you have too. Good luck! (((hugs))) jan
