My husband's strange anxiety attacks

Hi there. I am so happy that I found this site.

My husband owns his own business and he has 2 HUGE bills that need to be paid and business has slowed down. He has developed this habit of having anxiety attacks when it's bedtime. Here's the reason I said strange, because he will start sniffling and then convinces himself he can't breathe and then he starts pacing back and forth all through the night.

I made aqn appointment for him to see a professional, but I'm curious, has anyone ever had this type of anxiety attack? What can he do to stop himself from thinking about sniffiling and not being able to breathe? I hope someone can help.

Thank you and hugs,

Hi there. Sorry to hear about your husband. Sounds like he's having panic attacks. The feeling like he can't breathe thing is honestly a pretty common side effect. Different people have different symptoms that manifest during those. I've actually had that myself and it is very scary. He does need to find a good therapist, and perhaps Xanax would help also in the short term. It would allow him to sleep through the night and relax a bit before bed. Does he have insomnia? Perhaps the fact that it's right before bed is indicative of anticipatory anxiety regarding sleep. The main thing he needs to remember (and what I have to tell myself lots of times), is that he CAN breathe, he IS breathing, and there is nothing to be afraid of. He's lucky that he has a caring partner to help him through it. Good luck to you!!!

Thank You so much for the response!! I'm so amazed at how nice everyone is here!

I'm happy to hear the you have found a way to handle these attacks for yourself. I let my husband read these responses and he is also very thankful to you for sharing your emil address and just may email you. Thank You for the recommondation for the book. He was familiar with that and now he is going to look for it.

Again, Thanks so much to everybody that has taken the time to respond. You have posted some excellent advice and literature!!
