Hi am new here. I am 19 years old and have suffered from different kinds of anxiety problems since I was 14. I know I am doing better then I did when I was 14, but lately I am very overwhelmed with things. I do have a problem with depression and do get pretty anxious at night lately, which is why I am here at midnight. I am taking medications and seeing therapists and my dr. I am going to school and living at home with my parents. Life is just hectic I guess and I have trouble coping. You know what iVillage needs? A board for those with anxiety AND depression.

Hi, Kristina! Nice to see you;) Having had a couple of bouts with depression along with my anxiety, I know how difficult life can be. You are NOT alone! Research indicates that the two disorders go hand-in-hand. They are both chemical imbalances in the brain chemistry. Treating the serotonin levels with antidepressants works in both. What meds are you taking?

Hi Kristina! I'm a newbie here too :) I think alot of my problems started around 14 as well, something about hormones, puberty all those lovely things we go through, that kind of usher us into certain anxieties and depression. I'm glad you're here, these people are wonderful and here you have a place to vent, discuss, whatever, LOL. This board is great!

Hi Kristina,

As a nontraditional college student, wife and Mom, I can relate to some of the stresses you are under.

Welcome! I know what you mean about a depression & anxiety board, many people including me have suffered both. This is a really friendly group here though, so I hope you'll feel free to come back anytime. ;)

Smiles,
Dee

Hi Jan, I noticed you belong to the Cancer board. My grandfather died about a year and a half ago from lymphoma and my mom was diagnosed at the end of June with cancer in the rectum. She has gone through two surgeries, the last one was on December 13th, and then she has also been through chemo and radiation at the same time. She still has more chemo, but it seems they were able to get everything with the surgery. So I guess I could say this has been a significant stress for me.
I have been on medications since I was about 14, and have been hospitalized due to suicide attempts and serious anxiety attacks. The suicidal part isn't with me as strong as it used to be. I have a bit more trouble closer to my period. At the moment I am taking Luvox, clanazopam, and gabapentin. The clanazopam and gabapentin are anxiety related meds. The gabapenting will be upped pretty shortly because I am on such a low dose, the only problem is the first few days I am sooooo tired!!! I am pretty lucky thought that the alternate school I go to get my GED is soooo good about these things I go through. They let me talk to people when I need it, and they don't care if I am stoned from my meds as long as it is the path to a better me.
At the moment I do not have many things that incolve other people, but I do have hobbies to keep myself busy.
I think that answers your questions, if you have more I am here.

Thanks glamfatale,
I can relate to the puberty thing, ever since, I have had soooo many hormone problems, and it really doesn't help my anxiety.

Hi, I first want to say your kids are gorgous! And yes anxiety and depression are tough, but I do believe it is manageable, and we will be able to move on with our lives even if it is a little.

Hi Sheri Ann,
The weather/season does affect me alot, I have been diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder and have had these problems since I was younger also. At the moment I am not seeing a pdoc, but do have a worker with Child and Youth Mental Health, and also have a therapist for sexual abuse. I do admit that the issues I have are not nearly as bad as they used to be, but I do know they are there.
