Anxiety creeping back

Yesterday, I had those familiar feelings again. Rapid heartbeat, feeling anxious and racing thoughts. I don't think the paxil is working anymore. I've been on it now for 7 months. This happened with prozac and lexapro too. They work well for a while, then stop. I was able to lay down yesterday and concentrate on breathing and it worked. I didn't have to take an ativan. I made an appointment to see me doc. next week. I'm not sure what to do. If these meds quit working after a short period, what else is there? How do you cope with that?

Hi, Candace! It's nice to see you:)

Small setbacks are common with anxiety & depression. Learning to weather these storms takes time. Congratulate yourself on a job well done, yesterday. The breathing did help you, so there's a great coping skill under your belt. I know I am an impatient person & it's hard for me to wait to feel better again. But it will come in time.

I don't think your meds have stopped working. There is NO medication that will take away our anxiety entirely & on a daily basis. Meds are just a tool in learning to deal with the anxious feelings & thoughts.

Keep in touch & let us know what the dr. says. Remind yourself that you are doing the best you can. (((hugs))) jan

(((Candace)))

It sounds like you handled the pa really well yesterday. I don't know much about meds, but wanted to offer support. Hope your doc can help.

Hugs,
Dee

hey there candace,

i agree w/jan:) i don't think just because you had an anxious day means your meds have stopped working, it just means that along w/the med you need coping skills to get you throught these times...and it sounds like you have some great coping skills...you should be proud of youself.

know we are here to support you.

keep us posted.

Thank you so much. I needed a reminder that drugs aren't going to make me anxiety or depression free for the rest of my life. Somehow, I always think it does. I am glad I was able to use coping skills I've learned from this board and if it gets too bad, I do have the ativan. Anyway, I know I don't post much but I am here regularly to check in on everyone. Congratulations Heather on your delivery. I'm so happy for you. How has it been so far?

Love,
Candace
