so i went to my psychiatrist yesterday and got some sleeping pills cause that melatonin just wasnt working. and he gave me an older med that has been around for a while called trazadone, he said it used to be used as an anti depressant but it didnt work and so he uses it for patients that cant sleep well. i took it last night and its only at 50mg and i woke up around 10 , which is the lastest i have slept in a long time and i felt like i had a hang over. headache and all. anyone have any suggestions what i should do tonight? should i cut the pill in half?

Hi I am certainly no doctor, but I have had alot of medications in the past and Trazadone was one of them. I know how easy it is to want to say "no more" when it comes to those hang over headaches, but I know some of them do only last a few days. I am saying this because I am going through a simular problem. I started up a new medication, got the headaches, and thought no way can I do this. So I stopped the pill. This is my third time actually trying, and I am not giving up. So my suggestion is, if you can talk to a doctor, do so asap in case they say you shouldn't have that side effect, or yes it is normal. Until then, I think you should just take it easy. If you don't need to drive then don't. Keep yourself eating healthy things and.... well I guess the cutting the pill in half is up to you.
I know a doctor told me to even try taking the medication earlier so that I wouldn't sleep so long, but then you still get that headache...
Well I guess thats the best advice I can give. I hope you can figure out what is best for you to do.

I had Trazadone about ten years ago and it was for sleeping. It worked really well for me for the short time I needed it.

Hi, Melissa! I am glad to hear that you got some extra sleep. The sleepiness & *hungover* feeling usually passes in 7 to 10 days. Trazadone is a good med for sleep & one that others have used. IMHO, you should call the dr. & ask about decreasing the med. I took seroquel a few years ago for sleep & it knocked me out. When I decreased it on my own, it didn't work as well. HTH Good luck & let us know how things go for you. (((hugs))) jan

thanks for the insight everyone. i think tonight i am going to cut the pill in half and take it earlier since last night i took it quarter to 12. that probably didnt help much so tonight i am hitting the sac earlier since i have a sinus cold and i feel like crap. ive been taking tylenol sinus for that since it doesnt have that dex stuff that someone was telling me is in most cold meds and shouldnt be taken with anti depressants.
